OT - Modern Medicine and Rx

I left home at 7:00 AM this morning. Drove two hours to the regional surgery center, had double hernia surgery, a one hour recovery, another two hour drive home, and I am in my recliner at 3:00 PM. Pain feels like a large gas bubble. Can't complain about any part of that.

Great isn't it?
I am scheduled to go in at 9:00 Friday, cut out my old ICD cause its battery is down after 6 years. They will then install a new ICD and send me home that day.

ICD. is a Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. A pacemaker plus a built in "zapper".
About the size of a cigarette lighter that is under the skin of my chest with wires running in to my heart. Its a watch dog for my heart.

I have a Medtronic pacemaker that has been keeping me going for 12 years (long time for pacemaker). I will get it replaced this summer. You won't find me complaining about modern medicine or small circuit boards.

Hey Kenny,

Do you find anything that bothers your electric heart?

I'm just thinking ahead as I may be headed down that road.

Hi T-Bone, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but one of the first things they will tell you is you can't run a electric welder. But, all is not lost...you can still use the acetylene outfit. I don't have one but, a close friend does and thats what they told him. ohfred

Skycap, I had hernia surgery the first week of Febuary. I still have a few pains from it. Had it done on tuesday on weds. got up and walked around did that till sunday took it easy all day worst think Idid should have walked that day too. move around as much as you can you will fell better in the long run. Hope you get better soon.

T-bone;
The welder is bad but they will not go out on a limb and give me a definate NO.. Bring the cables in from out front and not close to you. Big thing is do not lean over a running alternator cause of the magnets. I think, THINK, that they do not harm the unit, just stops it from working right then if it is needed or doing something.
If you need one get it as soon as you can. They are the best comfort blanket ever made. I go to sleep at night and let the machine do the worrying.

T-bone, forgot to add that micro waves and such do not bother the new ones. Only thing seems to be strong magnet fields. Door checkers at the stores do not seem to bother, but they say to not stand there too long. They give you a card for do not scan at the air ports.

Thanks Kenny,

I have a feeling the alternator interrupts the magnetic field inputs or can do so in some cases if the conditions are correct. I never thought about it and will have to look into it in the future.

I figured that I'd start learning about the equipment so when the times comes, I'll know what to expect.

I don't fly period. I like too fly but I don't like the PITA crap they put you thru too take a flight in todays world.

Hey Fred,

Ya I really don't do very much welding any more. I've hired a couple guys and I've been teaching them and let them do all the welding and work.

Since I got my new eyes, I just really haven't wanted to weld for some reason.

I have pacemaker no dc current Had to give up on electric pick-up due to dc current however can weld with ac current be carefull around alternator and magnatoes
