Hey folks,
anyone have one or know someone that does? I hear Honda's are the cat's meow. Waiting on an email from the seller, but the ad has a 1 picture that looks pretty good and says it has less than 15 hours on it. The hour thing is believeable because it belongs to a soldier that that has spent quite a bit of the quad's life in Iraq and Afghanistan.
250cc. does $2500 sound like an OK price?

Thanks, Dave

It seems like a good price but what are you planning to do with it. We got a 400 for work on the farm and it could stand to be another 100cc or so. Otherwise seems like a good deal for an 07. Toby.

Not a whole lot. Would be doing the same thing that my chinese 250cc does (harrow, couple hay bales/water jugs, an occasional max 1/2 ton trailer). Just think this one looks a little tougher than mine and much nicer. Trying to find specs on the web but only finding reviews so far.

i bought one brand new in 97. it has raised 3 rowdy boys and done some work around the place for me. no question has been the most dependable thing I have ever bought. only had to replace tires and 2 batteries. other than that she still runs fine today. It even has the original spark plug in it. only had it out once!

I bought one in 2004 that was a 2003 model for $2500, the people took a big bath on it, had to sell it due to money reasons and no longer being able to ride it. Like brand new condition, excellent running, no engine problems, will pull a yard trailer, plenty of riding power for use around the farm. Just put the first new battery in it this past fall. Still on original tires. Just change oil regularly. Good running machine, you wont regret getting it. Plus its not too heavy to lift/shimmy around for storage or throwing in the back of a pickup or trailer.

Oh, I should say mine has electric shift with the buttons, have had no problems with that. Motor is actually 230 cc. Also has a pull start rope for if the batt. fails.

My wife has a 97 that has been a very good machine, very small and handy to drive. A little small for people over 200 lb, but will pull small trailer with 40 gallons of water very well on flat ground. I have a 400 4wd that I use for tougher jobs. Good luck!

I forgot to mention that ours is very good on fuel, something that might be important for you. When we were visiting Germany some years ago we saw some kind of a quad come down the street in Berlin, put on its turn signal, turn and continue on. Is that very common?

Yes it's common. I have to have plates on mine because I have to go on public roads to get to all my pastures. Inspection every two years. The guy still hasen't emailed me back. I'm afraid someone may have beat me to it. The asking price is about a third what the same one sells for on the German market.
The one I have now is china made but is the same as a yamaha bear tracker. Any idea if they compare in size?

Dave

I had a yamaha timberwolf when I was in college, it was replaced with the bear tracker. I think the only thing that get better with the bear tracker was the brakes were better than the timberwolves. Buddy of mine bought a new recon and we went ride'n a few times together. My yamaha would out run the recon on the open road by a little bit but when it came to mud and hills his seemed to have more lower end power.

As for Hondas, I have a 04 450 foreman 4X4 and it's the best thing I ever bought for the farm by far. From what I have seen of your operation a 250 will work good for you. I will say this about my old yamaha 250 and I am sure it would be the same for the recon, when I used the timberwolf to check fences and such seemed like I could run all summer on a tank of gas. I run a tank through my 450 every two weeks now.

Price sounds like a good deal. Good luck, hope you hear back from him.

Dave

No, not familiar with the Yamaha. I think we paid about $3200 brand new in 97, but they were selling as fast as they got them in, we had to wait a few days to get it!

If your's had 3 kids grow up on it and the spark plug has only been out one time you must live in a real dry place or the kids figured out how to dry it out with out tell'n ya. :)

Them things just always seem to find their way into water around here. :)

I think they make the recons 2 or 4wd, either way my 99 recon 250 has been a good machine. Goes through more mud than any 2wd 4 wheeler i have been around. Light on its feet, turns on a dime and starts in the dead of winter. I think a few years ago new ones were around 3500 for a 2wd at the local dealer so i think 2500 would be a fair price.

Recons are only 2wd. I bought an 04 a couple of years ago for $1600 and really like it for my produce operation....I do a lot of running back and forth to the fields, and a five gallon bucket sits nicely on the wide foot pegs. No hand clutch so it can be operated with one hand....hold a bucket with the other. There is a reason they don't have a hitch on them. They are not meant to pull or work hard. Mine had an aftermarket hitch bolted to the rearend differential so I tried pullin a single section drag with it. Wasn't long before it started laying a blue cloud behind me....

Be careful of those good deals, especially on craigslist. Most scams involve someone in the military and the atv is in another state blah blah blah.....

That's not good news.......... 2nd priority after hauling me around is to pull a harrow. Maybe need to think a little....My chinabike does it fine though. As far as a scam, thanks for the warning. In this case though, I can put my hands on this soldier and know his chain of command, just haven't heard from him yet, Afraid it's sold already. And don't know what he did for those 15 hours on the bike either.
