Have noticed several posts on well problems. It caught us and good. Had no water so son pushed the reset button and nothing happened. So grab the meters. Control box checked good. checked the wiring going down in well there was no shorts. Pump had to come out of well. 2 1/2 HP stainless steel pump with 22 stages. Had pumped water for dairy procssing plant, the barn and seventy head of cows and the household for 15 years. Not bad! When pump was out the motor and pump was broken apart. There it was the spline on the motor was worn off as well a its mate on the pump. The motor had been running free. Only one fix. New Pump. OUCH We know have water.

15 years.........that pump doesn't owe you a dime. I had a pump one time that lasted about 12 years watering 2000 head of hogs year round. It's amazing how long they last.

It seems alot of farmers in our area have two wells on each farm for a insurance. Some trench from one far to another if they aren't to far away. At one time it seemed excessive, but for what they pay in other expences, it doesn't sound so bad after all.

Our main one at our shop has been in since '85. I think we're getting pretty lucky it still works. I have a second one out back that is plumbed into it that runs our house and other buildings. I can connect them if needed. It's helped before when one of the water lines froze. Can't believe that first one is still chugging.

We have two wells the other is our irrigation well to much water and pressure to hook into the farm system. Son did fire it up to water the cattle had a lot of water going out to the field and a 3/4 hose going to the cattle.

Several years ago I had a crappy, POS job for a company that made these submersible pumps. I've actually assembled a few hundred of these. There are two things that will kill these pumps early. The first is having too small of a reserve tank in your line, making the motor start too often. The second is having these pumps suck up an excess amount of sand. Other than that, the plastic impellers last a long time.

Nancy: I am doing real well. Went to the big Implement show in OKC. Grandson loaded my Electric Jazzy on his lawn mower equipment trailer and away we went, Then I spent a couple days out and about on the well. Go to Doc on Monday. They have given me a shoot in my shoulder joint. Told me it could hsve some long time effect. At my age I told him it sounded better than long time pain. Taking no Pain pills an feel a lot better and not quite as doppey. gitrib

Hey Gitrib, Glad to hear you're fit enough to be out pulling a pump. You're makin me feel like a wimp.

put a new water pump on our well on wednesday. The old one had been servicing my family for over 30yrs. Guess it was time to rest. I havent tore it apart yet to see what finally gave out but I know the motor was still running and the pump was giving us enough water to survive but I wasnt going to risk the thing giving out when the warden was in the shower or something.

At the farm the pump was replaced 2 years ago, after it was hit by lightning. I think it was going for about 15-20 years feeding 3 houses, and 40-50 head of cattle in the barn.

The pump for my house was replaced a few years ago by the previous home owner.

We have gone to using black poly, heavy grade, when replacing pumps on the farm. We get lots of lightening strikes in FL! Use aircraft wire as a backup in case the poly fails, but never has. Makes pulling a submersable much easier and safer than the old pipewrench-front end loader method.
