My wife is due for a knee replacement soon and loves working on flowers all around the yard and but is limited because of her condition so her flower work ties me up from doing other chores so I'm thinking of getting her a golf cart so she can haul her tools and things to each location and play while I do my thing. Question is do some of you folks have a similar situation and what kind of price am I looking at and what are the drawbacks? Thanks in advance. CT

Around here in East Texas it seems like anything worth buying is going for $1500 on up. Last one I bought about this time last year was $1450 for mid 90's Club Car (4 wheel model). The 3 wheel variety will generally bring about $700 or less.

My in laws bought a 89 model Club Car with a new, not rebuilt, engine. They paid like 1200 for it, but its in really good shape and had some othet goodies on it. My brother bught a 92 Yamaha last fall for 1200, and a 75 model electric something or another, butt ugly, wore out cart for 100 bucks a little while back. He has more in repairs than what its worth on that one.

about $2000 +/-....get gas...I've had a Yamaha G1 (1980) that I've been trying to kill for about 18years. I thought I murdered it last summer but nope...a few corroded connectors and it was good to go. If my cart died tomorrow, I'd have another the day after. I luvs my cart.

First and foremost, since your wife is going in to have the proceedure, may it be very successful, and make all of the difference in the most positive way.

I haven't looked over at Ebay, but you never know. Perhaps you have a golf course near you and they've got a cart or few that are getting up there in age and use and would be willing to part with one for cheaper than you can get at a dealer. A new golf cart can run a few thousand $$$. I've got a neighbor family that has a Yamaha golf cart that I see their little girls drive down the road in front of the house, oldest girl about 10. We have almost no traffic down the road, so... Anyway, they're not a wealthy family or anywhere near it, so I'm guessing probably knew someone at a golf course, or maybe tried what I suggested. Club Cars are nice, but set high and aren't cheap.

Maybe check the golf course, and much good luck.

i bought my mother in law a refurbished and converted 2001 yamaha gas cart about 4 years ago. a flip down rear seat was added that when folded conerts to kind of a pickup flat bed. paid 3800 for the cart. runs great, never had any prblems.(and the kids beat the livin snot out of it) she uses it for gardening, and i mount my sprayer on it too.

I bought a cart from a friend the year before I had hip surgery. It was the best money I ever spent. I felt it gave me back my yard! I was so happy to have it. I would definitly recommend it for your wife.
Even now after recovering I still use it quite often. I bought an ATV and still prefer the golf car for around the ard things. Easy to get in and out of and will haul a LOT.
Talk to a couple golf car repair shops. Most courses rent or lease their cars from someone and they trade some out every year.
Mine is gas and I love it. I have friends that have electrics and think the world of them too.

Yamaha's are probably the best bet for used a cart. Club cars have an aluminum frame that isn't as strong and if it ever gets tweaked, is a real pain to repair. The best place to buy one would be from a golf cart dealer. They usually have a rental fleet they sell off each year as well as take trade ins from golf courses or private individuals. The newer carts often come with a warranty. A good used cart could be in the $2000 up to $3500 range. The good thing about buying from a dealer is that they can go through the whole cart and tell if it needs anything. Buying private, you never know why it's being sold. Dave

Depends on what you want. Electric will work but New batteries would be a good idea. Prob $50 to $100 for a old electric but $600 to $700 for a set of batteries.

Bout 5 years back I bought a 2 cycle for my mom for town 125th for $500 from a dealer. Just a plain ole cart. Worked fine but had to replace the plug a couple times. Used it around the farm and then traded it off on a EZgo UTV when my Cushman Truckster was getting to weak to count on for local threshing show. Mom loves to use it around the farm yard.

Definatly a golf car based vehicle for your situation. Just slide into it drive to where you need and slide out. No need to swing a leg over the center. You can spend anywhere from $500 to $15000 if you want. $500 will do the job but may need some TLC to keep going.

Now this depends on where you live and now many are for sale. At the Florida Flywheelers show and following week at Zolfa Spreing you could have got a deal as tons were for sale. I have 89 EZ Go with new engine for 400 and love it.

Around here the gas carts that are 4 to 5 yrs old and just coming off golf course leases bring $2,000 at auction, while electrics are cheaper. The expense of an electric is a set of batteries which costs around $600 and have a 5 to 7 yr typical life span.

When I go to Florida Flywheelers I haul 2 to 4 people all over that soft sand stop n start driving maybe 4 to 8 hrs a day SOOOOOOOOOOO that requires me taking my 1995 Yamaha gas cart as the batteries in an electric wouldnt hold up and then require maybe 6 to 8 hrs of charge time (if you can find a receptacle) to replenish. I also have a 1997 electric EZ GO here at home the wife can use to garden or haul. I paid $500 for my Yamaha and the EZ Go was given to me.

Thanks to ya'll for your input and a lot of good advice. My wife will have to decide when she will have to have knee surgery since she is a PTA and works with those people. Thanks for your well wishes and I'm on my way to find a good deal! Working in her flower garden is like miracle medicine. You folks are the greatest. CT
