Looks like it might just be a dry year

Well at this time they are saying we are behind on rain by almost 3 inches. Yep it didn't rain on Easter so it will be a dry year this year. Good thing is that means hay prices will be up. They are calling for rain the next few days so I hope there right because even the weed in my garden area are not coming up

I saw a huge dust-devil in east central Indiana yesterday. Rare for April, normally do not see these here until mid-June.

Gonna be interesting to see what that volcano in Iceland does to the weather this year. The one back in 92 made for one misserable year.

I tilled the neighbors garden last night and darn near choked on the dust. Drier'n talcum powder on a saltine cracker. WAY too dry for April.

Ya I just tilled my garden for the 3 or 4th time. I like to do it a few times to help kill off the weeds. Plus till in the manure I put on between the tilings and yep it is dry way to dry.
After taking this break I plan to go out and plant some Tomato and peppers and squash and I hope the weather man is telling the truth. Fat chance that he is. LOL

Hey Old, I read on the internet yesterday that in the SE corner of MO there is a fault line, Earthquake fault that is. The fault line is called the New Madrid fault.

Are folks in MO concerned? I am in Michigan and I would feel an earthquake but it may not cause damage.

Interesting Geology information of the net.

Ya that is the well know fault line in Missouri but there are a lot of others. I have yet to feel it shake us but I do know it does in fact shake us off and on just not real hard YET

We are starting year 7 of drought up here. Tried to plow one of my fields last night and the plow just skipped along and sparked , lucky I didn't start a fire!!! No rain in sight here either, anyone know how to raise frostproof cacti? It won't be long and the lakes and rivers will be gone up here at this rate. Got no snow or rain in March and about 1/2 inch of rain in April!!!

We're short 8 inches so far this year. Thankfully heavy rain forecast for the weekend so maybe some of that will get made up. I held my hay prices right were they were last year and am glad I did. I've got almost enough to carry me in a normal winter still in the barn. About 700 rolls worth of customers thought my prices were too high. Oh well, they may well get an education this winter. The customers that stuck with me because they liked my hay took care of me last year when the price plunged so Im taking care of them this year. If I've got it they can buy hay for the same price it was this past year. The ones that thought they were getting a bargain and decided to buy somewhere else, they can just keep getting their hay there.

Plowed thru some spots today, rolling dust. same places I didn't even get planted last year. Weather man says we'll get some rain this weekend, guess I'll hold off planting beans for a few days.

Down here in southern Misery we've had off and on cloudy weather all week but no rain. Could perhaps get some at the end of the week, like maybe a quarter to a half inch over a couple of days, but then again maybe not.

I remember being in Texas County, Mo one time, back in the late 50's or early 60's, and we felt a "shudder" that lasted several seconds. All it did though, was rattle dishes and windows.

We were used to sonic booms from jets going over high in the sky, and knew this was different.

It was no biggy but it still creeped us out. LOL

Later, we heard on the local news that it was from the Black "something" (Black Bayou, Black River ??) fault line, and not the New Madrid one.

(quoted from post at 06:58:29 04/22/10) Ya I figure if we do not get rain in a day or so I will water my garden then I know it will rain LOL

Yeah, water the garden, water the lawn, wash the car, all those work real well. :)

Well this time all I had to do was talk about it and look for the garden hose and it started to rain. So I guess it will be in door stuff for the rest of the day I hope

There is a cave about 10 miles from me and they say it sits right on top of a fault line so if things get bad I'll pretty much be wishing I had a helo copper sitting here
