A Little Bit Of Good Luck For A Change

Hi Guys,

At the tailend of last season, I started having some major issues with the front end on my 1066.

Started noticing that whenever I was on uneven ground, there was a lot of play in that front axle. I could see the thing actually jumping a couple of inches from side to side, could not hold a straight line and I was really afraid to use the tractor for fear that the whole she-bang would end up falling to the ground at some point.

It's about time to get to the summer fallowing, so I went went out to the farm yesterday to get things ready. Fully expected that I would have to yank that front end out from under that big brute and replace a broken pin and/or busings.

This is what I found; darned wishbone bracket was only held on by one very loose bolt. After scrounging around for some nuts and lock washers, it only took about an hour to get it tightened up again. :>)

Sorry for the grainy picture; took it with my cell phone.

One of my big Ollies was moving around a lot too. Found out four of the six bolts that hold the whole thing on were gone entirely and the other two were loose.

Yeah,

Scary 'taint it? :>)

I was hauling hay last fall and didn't know it I'd make it back to the yard or not. Just knew that jasper was gonna fall on the ground. :>(

Yeah...that's a good way to really bump your chin on the steering wheel (or other parts both tractor and person) Could not resist!:^)

Had that happen once while transplanting melons with an MF 285. I was working the transplanter while my buddy drove. We get to the end of the row and he hollers back, "is is supposed to do this?" I came up to see what he was yelling about. Everytime he turned the wheel the front sheet metal would shift up and down. It didn't take me long to find a wrench and tighten down that front end. After twenty five years of hard work I suppose it was time.
