Rhubarb should ready to use next month. My wife usually make a rhubarb crumb pie for our daughter's birthday. She will be 56 and was born at Ft Bragg NC while I was in the Army. Hal
PS: We have 3 more clumps of this.

Rhubarb is harvested here in Central MN. We had a very early spring. ~75 today. 14 to 16" stalks 3/4" thick. Cobbler in the fridge!! Jim

Hi, Was going to post a picture of our rhubarb growing in Nova Scotia, which is a little ahead of time this year. Since Hal's rhubarb makes ours look kind of puny, will wait a couple of weeks and then post a picture. May 13 is usually the date set for our back yard to produce our first feed of rhubarb. Cheers, Murray

I'm not too far up the road from Murray and yesterday morning we had 6" of snow on the ground. So although I have no rhubarb it wouldn't have been visible even if I had. Sam

Hal, I think the world of you man but I just cannot do Ruhbarb there isn"t enough sugar to make me eat that stuff! Mom and dad used to plant that stuff around the garden to chase away varmits and it worked for me too. They even used to try and disguise it in strawberry pie still no go. Sorry not my fave. LOL

hal, do you cut the seed stalks off yours? mine is coming up pretty good, and has the seed stalks on em. mother in law says to cut em off. i wasnt sure.

My dad taught me to split the stalks into thin strips and apply salt liberally. Still like it that way, but favor a good rhubarb pie.

You have a food fetish.I know fellows who wont eat pea soup, yellow potatoes, swiss chard with color in the stalks, most fish, hamburg, lemon pie, lobster, mussels, shrimp, crab meat, lasagna, squirrel and rabbit stew. Most aint wrapped too tight, probably a child hood hangover.Rhubarb was a life saver for oldtimers who went thru winter with few vegetables.Local history tells of people eating beech leaves. No dandelions growing here yet. They didnt know fiddle head ferns were edible.I like food nuts, leaves more for me.

Hey coupe! That may be but I just can"t hack the taste I grew up poor and ate a lot of strange stuff according to my kids, how about a big ole pan of fried Morrel mushrooms or hickoryjacks fried green maters or onion rings, just can"t stand Mangos or peppers no matter the color. I think it is the smell. My mom said she loved those things but when she carried me she got sick trying to eat those things. Now let"s talk beets Yewh!!! LOL

Lutz beets and pickled hot peppers,Morel mushroom are fine.We cooked cowslips in a fruit juice can with a wire bail when we were kids.Wild grapes and blueberries were good eating.Friends and I didnt know we were poor.Red peppers cooked in olive oil with onions and zuccini squash cooked on my wood stove are a favorite of mine. Most people have zero knowledge on eating from the fields and woods.Im going to check the Fiddleheads to day.

alright guys, whats the secret? we've tried for years to grow it and nothing. it gets about 6 inches high and then just dies out till the next year, we've tried clay dirt, rich dirt, fertilizer, no fertilizer, everything. my grandmaw could grow it like el toro's picture but how i don't know.
