Yep it is in sad shape but hope I can get it back up and running. Maybe if I do get it running my nephew will not be able to brake it.

Thanks Old. I've always admired their simplicity. They were made to work, not impress. There isn't a single frill or unnesecary item on them.

Correction, it's a Yazoo Master Mower. I think the Wisconsin engines are only rated at 12 1/2 HP but in reality have more torque than a newer 24 HP. Pretty hard to kill them. They're kind of like a 2 cylinder JD when they're under load. I think they only run at 1800, maybe 2400 rpm but are near impossible to stall. The forward reverse transmission is kind of funky though, especially when mowing on hills. You're supposed to be stopped before changing direction but they free wheel in neutral and don't have the best brakes. If I remember the brakes are just metal plates that push on the tires. Not uncommon for the rear wheel to come off the ground when changing direction. Yazoo's were one of the very first out front commercial mowers and great for going around trees. Later Howard took the Yazoo design and put a hydrostatic trans. on it with an 18 HP twin cylinder Onan engine. Yazoo is a much cooler name than Howard though. Dave

This one has NO brakes and has a who know how many HP B/S engine that is pull start which I hope to figure out how to fix to be a battery start.

My friend got it a few years ago and I got it up and running. Then he took it to his home and used it once or twice then could not get it to run and let it sit in his back yard uncovered for a couple year. Sad because it mowed like nothing you can buy today and did a very very good job of it

Mr Old,i have one with a 2cly wesconsin in it.used it a lot until spendle shaft started to woble. it wasnt taken care of very well before i got it,an shaft bearing tore shafrt up. iam in need of a good used shaft if you have an extra. dan

I have a few spare part but not many so probably do not have what you need. Last I heard yazoo was still making mower but I might be wrong

Funny story; My dad lived on a lake in Breakenridge Tx. He had a boat channel behind
the house. The three sides of the channel sloped down to the water. He was on a riding mower and
was mowing around a light pole on one corner of
the bank he started down the slope and couldn't
stop. He smoked cigars. He rode the mower all the way to the bottom of the channel and had to stand up to get his head out of the water and still had the cigar in his mouth.

I thought that engine looked different. Yazoo did make some newer style mowers but I don't think they make them anymore. Dave

Hey Old, i've got one, maybe 60's model, 60 inch mower, two speed trans.,and it has the original engine, which is a wisconsin two cylinder.
It was a good mower as long as the yard was not too unlevel, great for
mowing around trees and bushes, but the low mower speed was too slow
for me and the high speed was too fast to mow with, still have the manual
and the local mower dealer can still get most parts.

I picked up a Dixon commercial model zero turn mower at an auction a couple years ago, and will never go back to the regular type. But that Yazoo (love the name) looks like it would work nearly as well. Hope you can resurrect it.

It is in fact fun to drive it because of the way it turns. Hard to get use to that steering wheel being under your butt and how fast it will turn. About as close as you can get to a zero turn with out having a zero turn

I have a Howard price turf model 60 made in 1978 or so. Wisconsin 20 hp and will mow small trees down. I don"t think I want the kids to mow with it. It would climb up a tree before they would get it stopped. The only difference in the Yazoo and the howard is the rear wheel is covered.

Does the Yazoo have a hydrostic drive like the Howard?
