i have a ford tractor with a serial no of 40303s, 161879
i need to know what this means and what do i need for an overhaul kit?
thank you for any help i can get.

3 cyl -4 cyl -gas or diesel? A little more info please. Where did this searial number come from -Under the hood, transmission housing or engine block?

Those numbers don't seem to quite line up with info I havein my books... but it looks like you have a 1963, 4-cylinder gas 4000 industrial with a 4-speed and a Sherman over/under.
At any rate, assuming it's a 4-cylnder gas, you need a kit for a 172 c.i. engine.

Check on the transmission bellhousing, just above and to the rear of the starter... I was assuming that's where the numbers you posted were from. It's still likely a 172 c.i. if it's a 4-cylinder gas, although it could be a 233 or 256 if it's a 1965 or newer model.
