O/T what kind of engine is this?

i'm a commercial diver and lately i've been playing deep sea garbage man. We're cleaning up debrie from a structure that got knocked over during a hurricane. And look what i found. the engineer seems to think its a waukesha, any ideas? its got sparkplugs and coils. anyone know what it is and how old it could be?

If that's a factory setup (radiator and all) Wauk's generally had their name embossed (or cast) into the radiator shell.
I've seen that coil for each cylinder setup but not sure it wasn't used by a number of industrial engine builders.
Most (all?) older Wisconsins had their name embossed/cast on the side inspection plates.
Many industrial Wauks came with Twin Disc clutches, if it has one.
Is that round manifolding? in pic #2 a water cooled manifold setup or a natural gas setup??
Assuming no tag found, can you get a clearer side view of pic #1??
What's your guess as to time in water by encrusting/deposits (salt water or fresh??)?
I've still go some 50's Wauk manuals; I'll see if anything looks familiar. Fascinating find!!
 
forgot to mention its a generator on a skid, more then likely natural gas powered. as most platform equipment is. just found it intresting that it had spark plugs. no clutch just direct drive. it was on a structure that got knocked over during hurricane gustav, which was 2 years ago. but the structure could have been 30-40 years old. not to incrusted but muddy as hell. i'll check for casting numbers in the morning.
 
While I"m not familiar with NG engines, I assumed they all were sparkplug fired.
Did find one Wauk manual with the "coils" setup--says they"re actually "low tension ignition transformers" used with a "low tension magneto" on the engine illus page, altho they"re called "coils" in the ignition section. The engine covered came with high tension mag, low tension mag or dist ignition.
Seems I"ve read that NG engines burn/run much hotter and need water cooled manifolding.
 
Had a generator similar to that in the 1960s. It had a "Hercules" 6 cyl engine. Let us know what you find out.
 
hit it with the fire hose this morning, found a casting number on the left side (7-11 80) so i guess its not that old. no casting numbers on the inspection plates. and the exhaust manifold is water cooled, it has a supply coming from the top of the engine and after the pump goes into the radiator. did find a spot on the right side where there could have been a data plate but its gone. thank for all the help.
 
Don"t leave us all hanging; if nothing more definite turns up in a day or two put the pix on either the "Unknown Engine" forum or the "Multi-Cylinder Power Unit" forum on smokstak; the people there"re more familiar with industrial power units, and"ll probably come up with a good ID.
Like your friend, I"m inclined towards a Wauk, but I have very few pix; Herc did build some 6"s up to 935cid (and maybe more) but I don"t think they were big on NG fired industrial power units like Wauk, Climax, LeRoi etc (I"m open to correction on this point). Bud
