First field work

I got the Long 900 out and wanted to see what it would pull, so I hooked it to a JD 18 ft wheel disk. To my surprise it pulled it just fine. I redid the tractor last year and never got to use it in the field that much it became the planting tractor. I worked 17 acres and burned about 5 1/2 gal of diesel not bad, not bad at all. Wish they all were that easey on fuel. Here's some pictures I thought you might like. Sure a beautiful day. Bandit

Silly question, WHY? I have used it for a year and it seams to do every thing just fine, very easy on fuel and can get parts ease enough. I guess I just like to odd tractors. Bandit

Where are they(Longs)made, sold, and where are they used? I've never seen or heard of them.Where are you?

Them old Longs are a bit clunky but they will deliver more hp per gallon of fuel than about anything going. They will also take a lot of abuse. Good luck and you did an excellent job on the tractor.

These Longs were made by Zetor in europe painted blue and shipped over here to Tarboro NC from 74 to 78 and Long went out of busness. The rims and fender were Oliver and MM burn off parts from White. When I cleaned the rims up they were clover white under the white paint. The fenders are MM like the ones on a G950. I am in south west Ohio 30 mi east of Cincinnati Ohio.

When I got her she didn't run showed 561 hours witch turned out to be right cause it still works. I like a challenged when I work on something. It was rewired and has a CAT high torque starter a chevy alternator a thermostat for a power-stroke diesel and many other changes to her. Runs great and ease to operate and very ease on fuel. I guess I just like the odd ball tractors. Bandit

I can understand them setting it on fire...

Our neighbours had a Zetor 12045 (I think) and a new 7245 both of which they lost in a barn fire. They liked the 120... but both were pretty crude simple tractors. They replaced them with Ford's too... so that might say something.
But... there were several other Zetor's around here. 8011's, 7211/45's and some of the smaller ones too... and WITHOUT EXCEPTION, there is not one that cleared 5K hours on an engine. Many were a good deal less. Hydraulic problems. Leaks. Constant problems with the hydraulic brakes/seals. Mostly smaller stuff other than the engines... but in most cases it was enough that they never bought another. Most are gone now; replaced with Kubota's and Massey's...
Zetor tractors of that day were simply not up to the design or workmanship quality of most of their north american or western european counterparts. Mabey not a ruski... but not american or brit quality by any stretch. At a time when Ford, Deere and IH were building their very best tractors in terms of durability, Zetor couldn't match them by half.
However... none of that matters if you're happy with this one. Good luck.
