Which decal is better, mylar or vinyl?

What is the best method for application?

I have restored 3 tractors in the last 3 years and I put Jordes Vinyl decals on all 3 and Have been very impressed with the ease of application ,qaulity of the lettering and durability.

It has been covered before, but basically mylar has clear plastic between the letters and the vinyl are usually individual letters with a piece of paper across the front of them to keep them in place while you apply them.

In terms of application, any reputable seller of decals will tell you how to install them. Some say to use a little soap/windex under them to get them so that they will move a little. Then when they are in place you squeegee the water/soap out. Personally I use painters tape to put them where I want them, flip them up, pull the backing off and apply. Just make sure they are where you want them because they aren't going to come off. Apply lots of pressure to make sure they stick good and you are ready to go.

If you are using mylar (or possibly vinyl) and you get an air bubble that won't work out you can take a needle and pop the bubble and then work the bubble out.

Whatever you do, make sure you have clean hands if you handle the mylar ones. They love to pick the little bits of dirt off your fingers to preserve for eternity under the decal. (don't ask how I know)

It depends on what you want. Mylar is original and will last for decades. Mylar is also less costly. If you want a "customized" appearance, kind of like on a street rod, then go with the vinyl.
