I have an International 424(36hp) with front bucket that I use for lifting logs. I would like to purchase a tractor with 50 to 60 horsepower and a front bucket to load logs that my international can not handle.Due to price considerations I suppose a ford in the 1965 to 1975 range might work. Massey ferg., International,or other are ok.Please make suggestions on which models could do the job.<br>
Thanks,

The good old tried and true Essex Tri-Directional is ideally suited for such tasks. You can't stop them. They're even better than Toyota in that regard.

I have an IH 424 as well. It's been a GREAT little tractor, but the local NH dealer has an 884 on the lot I'd like to have... 70 or 75 horses.

Here's a photo of an 884, snatched off of the 'net...

I recall my grandpa telling about an ETD out in Oregon . It had a loader and a three point rotary felling saw . Claimed it could clear cut and process 50 acres of timber a day . It burned up in a mysterious fire one night . It put way too many logger out of work .

There where many test models of the ETD made and discarded. There was a problem with the Quadphasmic drive when you tried to shift to hyperphysic overdrive. Remember this was in 1919 and unobtanium was not yet available. They did try a loader that revolved independent of the frame. It was tippy if you tried lifting while jackknifing. Having to hold back on two levers while pushing ahead on the other two while stepping on three pedals at the same time was a bit confusing. I understand that one of the test drivers wound up buttocks deep in hog slop when he lost control. It could have been bull droppings hmmmm. If either the Dums or the Repugs had financed the ETD we could all be out in the field now cutting divits in the cotton patch.

Sorry, got carried away. How big are the logs? You are talking a lot
of weight if the logs are any size at all. Very tippy if you are loading
them on a truck. more info please.
