After a day of planting (sunflowers, beleive it or not) and barn chores, I took my 2 youngest Toby and Riley (6 and 3) to a buddy's pond. Here's their first fish ever. They had a blast wetting the line, but NO CHANCE they'd touch it!
They did cast, hook and reel it in themselves...5 inch sunny put up a helluva fight

Looks great. I have a big pond and I am alway inviting people with kid over to catch a fish. Most of mine are Gills but I did have a bunch of bass too. I had one guy over and his son caugt a 20 inch bass. It was his first and man he was excited. The only thing at that time I wouldn't let anyone keep the bass, only gills. The year before last, most of my bass didn't make it thought the winter. After seeing how many bass I had, I sure wish I would have let the kid keep that bass. My gills are so easy to catch you can catch them with just a hook for the first ten minutes. No bait on it.

Cute picture; cherish these memories "cause they
grow up real fast!

When I was a kid we had a pond full of bullheads.
My dad always said when the maple leaf is the size of a mouse"s ear, it"s time to fish for bullheads. I still say they are about as good eating a fish you can find if you catch them when the water is real cold.

Probably best for the pond if you remove the largest bass, anyhow- They eat a tremendous number of fry when they get that big, and the overall health of the pond is better if you get rid of the real "hogs".

My oldest grandson just turned 5, and he loves to fish. Last summer we camped at a popular lake, where no one ever catches anything in the summer. But my nephew (who can catch salmon in a mud puddle, I swear. . .) brought his 10 foot aluminum flat-nose "jon" boat, and electric trolling motor, and they caught 5 or 6 nice trout in about half an hour.

So I've been looking for a similar boat. Thought I'd found one last week- drove about a hundred miles, and while I was looking at it, the cops came and said they had a complaint from someone who saw his stolen boat on Craiglist. So I didn't get that one, and I think someone ended up in the pokey (I didn't hang around).

But went on another junket yesterday, and ended up with one. Was pricing electric trolling motors on Craiglist, but can get a new one with 3 year warranty for about the same price, so am ordering today. Lowland lakes open April 24, and we're gonna be READY!
