Looks like the state lagislature is still dragging its feet when it comes to cracking down on these drug gangs posing as "compassion clubs",but one by one townships and municipalities are cleaning them up. The city of Greenville drove them out first, then our township where the leader and his second in command live, now I saw in the legal notices in the paper last night that the next township to the east where they were migrating to has passed the toughest ordinance against them yet.
That's all great, but I'm still not going to be totally satisfied til they're all in federal prison and their homes have been confiscated. I just have to keep telling myself....baby steps....baby steps. They'll get rid of'em eventually.

I was wondering if you could tell us what some of these communities are doing. New York State is giving serious consideration to passing medical marijuana and from what I have read it will be very abundant in terms of control. Would like to have some ideas to bug the state assemblyman with.

Pretty much what they are doing is outlawing the sale, possession and advertising of paraphernalia of every kind, including equipment intended for growing it. State law allows possession of the substance now,in limited quantities, but says nothing about possession of paraphernalia,so local governments can ban that and make sure that they don't posses more than they are allowed.
If you go to thedailynews.cc and check the legal notices in the April 9th edition for the new Evergreen Township ordinance,I think that one is the most inclusive one passed yet.

I had no problem with these idiots when they were doing it at home, keeping it to themselves. Everybody knew they were doing it and left them alone, but when they started acting like a gang, wearing T-shirts advertising it,actually advertising it in the local papers, going to public meetings trying to intimidate people, just plain acting like thugs, that's when the majority around here started having a problem with them.
They're acting just like Dr Kovorkian did when there weren't any laws regulating what he was doing. They act like just because the law is vague, that they can smoke it right on the sidewalks in town. If it was tobacco, the lefties would have a fit,but since it fits the left wing agenda,it's just fine with people like you.
We have standards in this community. None of those idiots are from around here and we're not going to put up with it,plain and simple. They can shut up and go back into their basements with it,or they can go back to where they came from. They've pushed us too far and we're not going to take it anymore. If you want them in your neighborhood, just say so and I'll give them the message.

Or to shuck right down to the cob,you can't outlaw the marijuana if they have less than a certain amount and have one of those phoney prescriptions, but you can outlaw a Zip Lock bag if it CONTAINS marijuana,or a rolling paper if it has the stuff rolled in it.

On that note,it IS illegal for them to drive for 72 hours after they smoke it. They know that and ignore it.

tlak in all seriousness and respect, could you please quote a site or source for your claim? i have heard that statement many times before over the years all the way back to the 70's . i could never find a source that substantiates that. thank you al

I've seen where dopers have ruined their lives and the lives of others because they will support their habit at any cost (stealing, among other things). They don't care who they hurt when staying high is job one and earning a paycheck to provide food and shelter is secondary.
Again, I have seen these people up close (in-laws) so don't tell me they don't exist. I have no tolerance for alcoholics that do this, either.

There is a huge difference. Drinking beer is legal. Drinking and driving is illegal. That's when you become like them. Millions of people drink responsibly every day. Drinking alcohol has been socially acceptable for thousands of years.

Exactly. The leader of the local gang has been farming up the road from me for years, smoking his stuff on the side,no big deal. Now that it's legal for him to do it right out in the open all the time, somebody else is feeding his cattle, the cows look like 2 miles of bad road, another neighbor said that he is going to put up the hay off the place this year and the pothead owner is going to quit farming. He's 53,not old enough to retire. Guess he must be either constantly wasted or thinks he's gonna make a good living as a dealer.
Saddest part is,he has no idea who he's in bed with dealing with the guy who he's let be his second in command. I know the number 2 mans history and connections and have no doubt that the stuff that they're growing is being sold on the streets. It's inevitable that the dumazz is gonna be found dead in a ditch some day.

More people killed by drunk drivers than dopers ?? Statistics to back it?? Would be nice- nearest I can recall locally was the traffic death coroners tox report requirements in Wisconsin and some related arrest test reports- about 30% of single vehicle crash deaths had drunk limit exceeded, 10-15% had indications of drugs but limits not defined- 10% had Mary Jane and 5% had opiates or coke. Another 10% had both drugs and alcohal. On the deaths due to others cause- as in the drunk hit and killed someone else- the arrest reports show about 50% alcohal and 30% dope indication, sometimes both. arrest testing is noted to be not complete- arrestee that refuses testing doesn"t get counted as drunk or drugged. Arrestee that was also injured gets blood draw at ER and results can be checked and counted in statistics and later presentance reports even if results are suppressed for a trial. These get noted in the about 50% drunks and doped. The other 50% gets speed, lack of experience, mechanical failure and weather/road conditions including a few deer crashs blamed as cause of fatal accident. Non Fatal accidents may get a blood draw- but the reporting requirement was mainly concerned with deaths and these figures were 1998 to 2003 5 year history. Milwaukee area was reporting higher coke, opiates than state average, Madison had some more grass incidents as well as high alcohal numbers- partial blamed on college students. Wisconsin has drunks in government- like DA, state legislature that just missed being expelled, lieutenant governor pulled out of ditch drunk. Madison had a police incident when police officer investigating grass burning smell in upstairs of restaurant turned around when she recognized local council members- her report indicated she felt arrest would be squashed and deferred to superior who also said they were offlimits- figures. So-- the reports are indicating twice as many drunk caused deaths as dope caused deaths- but figures are noted to not be complete and dope tests were just starting, rates were going up the last 2 years 2002, 2003 as compared to first couple years as testing materials and protocols were being established. of the 400+deaths 2002/2003 that would be 100 deaths due to drunks, 50 due to drugs only, another 25 combination, another 25 suspected but incompleted tests (10-20% late test, suppressed, complete test not available- report says allow 10% margin of error minimum). Deer get blamed for 6 deaths, 45 injuries requiring at least overnight hospital stay. A few deer caused deaths/injuries have a stoned driver failed to respond to deer contributing factor noted. RN

Kind of interesting - over this side of Michigan, I've never heard of "compassion clubs". The only person I know that has a medical weed script, is a 50 something female. No idea what her problem is, nor do I care.

Well, it did, and we"re only starting to reap the benefits. Thanks to the voters of Michigan with their great compasionate hearts. I share rrlund"s concerns. They"re not that far from us either. Wonder how long it will be before it becomes such a problem that it gets roped in. If they really need it as medicine, there are sources of properly prepared, clean, and legal at your local pharmacy. Only you don"t smoke it!

No stats, just threw it out there, so to some of you it matters whether you're killed by a drunk or doper?
