fuel in oil

I am getting fuel into the crank case. I have 47 hours on the tractor after rebuild. I had the injector pump rebuilt at the same time. It has added around a quart + in the 47 hours. Iwouldn't think it is the pump any ideas? The tractor is a 1964 Ford 4000 172 diesel.

My 3000 was having the same problem and it was a bad injector. I have also heard of older Fords having a leaking line inside the valve cover that causes a similar problem. May also be a defective Thermostart plug failed open if your unit is so equiped.

More than likely the injector pump drive shalf seals need to be replaced. Very easy to damage when installing pump. Be sure to follow instructions. One more thing, if the bushing in pump has been damaged in any way that needs to be replaced also.

Very easy to screw up, even by a pump-repair person who patched up your pump (I doubt it was really rebuilt).

I assume the shop installed the driveshaft and seals and not you? Even when a new bronze drive-end bushing was installed, it's very easy to flip over one umbrella seal when installing and not realize it. Not until the crankcase starts filling with diesel fuel. I've messed up a few myself.

But, if your pump previously failed due to a shattered plastic ring - and if some chunks of plastic still remain in your return lines - the pump housing will over-pressurize and push fuel into the crankcase.

So, make sure your fuel return lines are clear.

I didn't think about the lines under the rocker cover. Thanks !! I hope that is where the problem is it should be easier to repair and less $$$.
