OT Dandelion Wine Recipe

Does anyone have a good recipe for dandelion wine that they are willing to share? I have made plenty of muscadine wine and beer, but I thought I'd try some dandelion wine this spring.

1 gallon dandelion blossoms
1 gallon boiling water
Juice of 1 lemon
3 oranges, peeled and sliced
4 lbs. of sugar
1 cake of yeast (I prefer to use a wine yeast like (Lalvin K1V1116)

Combine water and blossoms in a crock. Let stand for 24 hours, then strain.
Add rest of the ingredients. Let the mixture set for 3 weeks, then bottle.

Age in bottles for at least 2 months.
Pretty darn good but watch out..it creeps up
on you!

We call it cape weed, yellow flowers with black centre.Farm full of it last year.Tends to spread and smother other grasses.

My mom used to make wine, she made up a bunch of dandelion, that stuff was obviously not made by the right recipe. Tasted just like silage smells!!!! It was evil! Hope you have better luck with yours.

Funny you should ask, I just dug out my recipe last night and it's laying right here by the computer.

6 cups Dandelion petals (get all the green off)
2 lbs sugar
1 gal water
8 oz raisins
1/2 lemon or 2 tbs of real lemon
1/4 teaspoon yeast

Heat water and dissolve sugar in it. Pour hot over rest of ingredients. Cover with tea towel, let steep for 3 days. Strain and put in a containter with a bubbler or some method to let it ferment without air getting to it.

After fermentation is done, strain again and bottle.

When you uncover this mess after 3 days of steeping, you'd think it's ruined. After you strain the solids off, it smells just like raw honey. Some of the best wine I've ever had. Just make sure you only use the petals. Any bad dandelion wine I've ever had had some of the green left on the buds.

Good Luck,
Tim
