New Hydraulic Pump

I have just replaced the hydraulic pump on my 1972 Davis Backhoe and I cannot get anything to work. I hold the lever either way on any part of the backhoe and I have to wait a very long time befor anything happens. then there is only slight movement. Can anyone help?

You have air in the system and need to bleed it.

How do I go about doing this?

Just start loosening lines. Start at the pump and keep working out from there til there aren't any more bubbles.
