Flush the oil system in a diesel tractor.

I have a Satoh Buck 3 cyclinder that I just recently changed oil in. I was wanting to flush the system so as to remove all of the old oil buildup that occurs in a tractor. I did not do this due to an experience I had on a pickup truck where I had done this and had big chunks of material from the oil pan area break off and plug the oil pump.
Has anyone successfully flushed the oil in a diesel or gas engine? What did you use for the flush and how did you avoid the problem that i ran into?

dont flush.. start using hd tractor oil and it will slowly clean the engine back up. change oil when engine is hot for best cleaning.

And don't use varsol to flush out the engine. Because it will flush it all the way out. Knew a guy that was told to clean his with varsol. He learned his lesson after having the engine replaced.Just use good oil and let that clean it out.
