Records were lost in a fire, so it is pretty difficult - just have to go by opriginal, old paint.

In an effort to showcase their new Select-O-Speed transmission, Ford required each dealer to purchase at least one gold demonstrator equipped with "SOS". So, any tractor originally painted gold will have the SOS transmission. This was done in 1959. That narrows it down a little but not much. Short of finding original records, pictures, original owners, etc., it is difficult to pin down which ones were painted gold. Not very many relative to the total production run. Most of the gold ones were 801s but not all. That was left to the dealer to decide if they wanted a 601 or 801 or 901, etc. Add to all this the fact that many of the gold ones were repainted red and gray, blue and gray, blue, etc., and the fact that some 861s were doctored up with SOS trannys and painted gold in an effort to make them more saleable as collector items,,,hmmm? Call external_link in Wilkinson, IN and ask those boys. If anyone knows it would probably be them. Mike Newton or Stan Strojney in Mosinee WI might know as well. All have websites.

First it would have to have a SOS trans.
Second it would have to fall in the correct serial # range.

While all records have been lost about these old Fords some guys have come up with a range of serial #'s based on seeing many tractors from this time period. The range is 60949 to 71505.

So what is your model and serial number????????

thanks for the info I will contact some of those above mentiones because I have 2 1959 with SOS transmissions one is a 871 and one is an 881
