John Deere 430 LG Just Ticking

Our 430 lawn and garden has been sitting inside for two years. Battery claims it is charged, but it just sits there quietly ticking and won't even try to start.

I'm thinking it is the solenoid, but was wondering if anyone had a similar experience.

Any advice appreciated.

They've got an electronic "time delay module" between the ignition switch and the stater solenoid.

If that fails (or safety switches or associated wiring), it won't start.

Check fuses and look for loose connections or damaged wiring.

You'll need someone more familiar with the details than I or a factory shop manual if more troubleshooting is required.

Don"t trust the battery, try jump starting it. Or freshen it up with a charger for a bit. Corrosion on the contacts is also a possibility. Even sitting indoors that can build up.

Thanks guys. The battery was "topped" off last night, but it definitely needs more juice. I put my jump box on it and it is now turning over. It can now turn over weakly 2 to 3 times.

I'm afraid I don't know enough about diesels to go much farther now.

Anyone have any tips about getting a diesel engine running that has sat for 2 years?

If it will only turn over 2 or 3 times put a new battery in it. The glow plugs need a lot of juice and then you get to the starter, The ticking is the fuel pump.
