O/T: Potatoes on Good Friday?

Anyone get any potatoes in for Good Friday? My Grandpa always planted potatoes on Good Friday. I always thought it was just a good reference for the time of the year, but I read recently that it's an old Irish tradition/superstition. Anyway, I wanted to do it, but thunderstorms ruined my plans before I got home. Anyone else follow this tradition?

Around here they've always said, plant them on St. Patricks day, so that's what we do. Got potatoes, onions, peas, and spinich in the ground on St. Pat's day. Onions are about 3" high now. Keith

My Grandpa went by the same rule. Except when Good Friday/Easter was in March, then wait until the same date in April. Alway had a bumper crop.
Whether or not we agree, some people firmly believe that certain crops should be planted during full moon. Since Easter is always the Sunday after first full moon in Spring, Good Friday is close enough.

I couldnt yesterday but im going to the farm today and hope to plant some yukon gold. Is there anything better than stealing some young spuds from the plants when they start to flower?
That to me is good eating.

I got the Farmall M out and disked the garden lightly this past Thursday. Trying to get some air to it so it would dry. Nothing planted, been too wet. Heck, we still had 7" of snow two weeks ago.

I could have "mudded" some stuff in yesterday but we had a big rain front coming in. Left the seed in the bag and glad I did. Seen enough stuff rot in the ground.

Anyway, I had always heard potatos in by St. Patricks day.

Past three years I've always planted my taters the weekend after Easter. Hopefully I can this year as well. Bought a potato planter earlier this year, can't wait to try it out. I have 80 lbs to get into the ground.

Tilled the garden a week ago and too wet. Re tilled last night and in fine shape. Planted a few pounds of Yukon and red just to say I got some planted on Good Friday. Planted a few onions also. Everything under water this morning. S central IL.

Same tradition here in central MN...at least this year we don"t need a pickax to get them in.

we always had new potatoes and fresh picked green beans on Easter Sunday for lunch.

Always heard that old tale. Around here most Good Fridays you'd be pokin' 'em in the ground with a stick. Way too cold and wet to plant then. Just a little later and they do a lot better.
