mccormick W9

ethan, heres a couple pics of my 9 pulling a 14 ft disk. fun tractor to drive, more like lumbering. looks like a fat baby in tight diapers. with duals and loaded tires it will do a days work. in its day it was the largest in the i-h fleet for a primary tillage tractor. also was used for belt work on threshers.

I think the W9 was the largest tractor at the time in the late 40s.

I think it has a 5.3 liter engine, go to www.external_link for all the info.

Gonna have her warmed-up pretty well, by the time ya get that field done...!!!
Got plenty Gas cans...?..!!!
Were any "9's" made in Diesel..?
Wonder what would bolt in..!!
Here in Ohio (Delaware, Ohio) I have seen a W-9 hooked to an old drag-sled and it did very well, with a JD "R" and a bunch of people standing on the sled..!

I have seen pictures of that dualled up W9 before. It always made me wonder, so now I'm going to ask. How the f+++ did you keep from screwing up either axles or axle clamps? We had both a 560 and a 706 that we worked hard WITHOUT DUALS and had our share of problems. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of experience with duals (970 Case, 1070 Case, 2096 Case, 2290 Case, 7800JD with rear duals FWA and finally a 8100 JD FWA with duals which I seldom use), So I am going to call your bet and raise you (all in) and say that those W9 duals didn't benefit much (in the conditions shown).

the w series doesnt run a clamp like the row crop tractors. the axle stubs are splined to match the cast centers and are non adjustable. a cap screw is all that holds the cast center on. the splines have a taper to them, so once they are on, they are a devil to get off. i usually keep the duals on this tractor all the time, i was disking headlands here in the fall and the field along the roads to keep cigarette butts from catching the stubble on fire. last year my neighbors bean field caught fire in the spring, and about 40 acres were burning, went out with this rig to keep the fire from spreading. it will handle mud real good too.

WD9 used the same diesel engine as the TD9 crawler, I believe. MD wheel tractor used the TD6 engine.
