Neighbors that live about a mile from me are in their 80's. The other evening while they were watching TV 2 punks kicked their door in and came into the house waving baseball bat. Husband produce a 44 Mag. and started shooting. Don't know if he hit anyone but the police found some brown substance where they had been standing. I would have loved to see the look on their faces when he pulled out the 44 and started shooting.

Just my experience with older folks, but I'm guessing he didn't miss. I'd be willing to bet he tried a scare tactic shot or two, and it worked. Most older guys I know that have guns are real accurate with them.

A couple of guys did that here, they picked the wrong house, a retired sheriff's deputy. They were carried out. Saved the tax payers a ton of money not having to prosecute and house them.

Takes a REAL TOUGH guy to break in on someone in their 80'S
If he had put both of them down in their tracks they would have got the just deserve
Until this starts happening more,I fear it is only to get worse.

A few years ago, a couple of punks entered a pawn shop in Omaha. One of them held a gun to the head of a co-owner. The other co-owner simply grabbed a pistol from under the counter and opened fire.

One of the punks is paralyzed from the waist down and is contemplating his choice of careers. The other one isn't contemplating anything.

Sadly, the shop closed six months later. Too much trauma for the owners.

My cousin tried to kick down a door onetime. Only problem owner was on the other side with a 10 guage. Took off the door and one leg. Glad the owner did what the state would not.

Had a punk break into a house way out in country here in Oklahoma. She was an older women she called 911 when he was banging on the door. She told them if he came through the door she was going to shot. Well he did and she dropped him.
Don't mess with old people specially not a women.

My BIL used to be a cop, and got in on a budget cut. He delivered Pizza for a income, and decided to pack heat also. Perhaps a misunderstanding that no one wants cold pizza delivered?

Two guys tried to rob him, and got shot in the process. It took a long time to clear the water for him, but last I heard he was going to be cleared of charges.

Another buddy was dating a divorced lady, her ex got drunk and phoned her, said he was going to kill both of them. The sherrifs office said there was no cops in the area.

On his sixth kick on her door my buddy pulled the door open and droped him with a good hard right hand.

Within ten munites the cops showed up and took my buddy to jail for excesive force. The judge said he took the law in to his own hands, and was fined. And YES it is on his record.

Now my thinking is, if say fifty folks showed up at the judges house some evening? You know? Let the chimp that wears the robe get some first hand experiance as to feeling helpless.

He should have appealed the decision on the right hook. Generally, you can defend your home (or the home of another) with anything less than deadly force, if a home invasion is occurring (kicking on the door qualifies). Judges want to encourage "less than deadly" force.

And if you see a gun, you can shoot him.

What you say perhaps is accurate, but he did not kick the door in, he was trying too.

And then there is the real facts of life, young kids that do not have wealthy parents become wrong in our parts because they can not afford a attorney. And he no doubt had to pay his attorney for the first round.

I was there in a divorce / custody ordeal, wife left, had been the book keeper...you all know the story.

My ex had a very wealthy boyfriend, so the papers, and attorney costs, kept me down and out.

I certianly do not expect anyone to understand till they wore the shoes, as it is unbelevable.

Appeals need a attorney to start the paper work / file. If you don't have the money, prepare to be wrong.

There are always folks who claim to know of free attorneys etc. Well they no doubt have been told this information, it's just that it does not exsist in the real world.

In Iowa the free attorneys do not get involved in divorces either, not the case I brought up, but just as a side note.

My suggestion to him was to buy a very large mean dog. My cousin used to be a cop in a college town that was known for fighting. He said his big dog was the best way to make fighting drunk folks sober off in seconds.

These cases of wrong doing being ok in our courts are over the top, and all common sence has been tossed out the court house windows.

Paul Harvey told about this lady a few years ago. Lady in her 70s or 80s had a guy trying to break in by climbing in her kitchen window. She hit him with old iorn skillet and knocked him out cold. She called the law and until they came every time the crook came too she would hit him again. The law found him knocked out 1/2 way in the window. This is sad, a lady in my area lived about 10 mile from me. She was 80 plus years old and three teen agers broke into her house in the middle of the day. They beat her into a coma for a few dollars. All i can say is more power to the people that can defend there life and property. I wish everybody could and I wish nothing good on these worthless ?????? that try to do harm and take from good people. Don't come into my home or let me catch someone going into a home to do harm. I feel those kind of people have no right to continue on in this world.

the news has reported Il is going to lay off a bunch of state police. between that and those retiring Il will lose about 600 state police officers. Il will lose about 30% of the state police force.
the county i live in laid off 27 deputies.
i told mrs 730 people are going have to buy hand guns for self protection. only 1 small town in county has full time police i think a couple of them have police at all.

In michigan if your shooting you better be using deadly force, and your life better be in danger. You can get in more trouble for "winging" bullets out there than protecting your life with deadly force. Shoot to kill...
