Injector bores

I pulled the injectors out of my Ford 9000 yesterday. They came out kind of hard because of rust in the bores. I am sure that they will go back in but I want to minimize the amount of rust that I knock down into the cylinders. Any ideas of how to clean the bores?

You can buy injector bore brushes from Napa stores. Put foam ear plugs in the hole at the bottom to keep debris out of the cylinders. After brushing blow out the debris with compressed air. Don't forget to remove the plugs before reinstalling the injectors.

Try a fitting brush. Cut the loop off and put it in a drill.
I carry a 1/2" fitting brush in my tool box for cleaning battery cables, wire terminals etc.

a piece of hydraulic hose with the ends frayed a little and a piece of rod clamped into the other end to go into a drill works pretty good, thats all we used at the Case dealership I worked at.

A suggestion: Turn the engine over until one of the valves for the cylinder you are working on is wide open and then put the intake nozzle of a shop vac as close to the bore as you can get it while "derusting" the bore with a brush(a shotgun bore brush of the appropriate size works well). There is no sense in getting anything into the cylinders if you can help it and this method gets air coming up through the injector hole to carry out the rust dust. A little never-seize compound on the injector body is a great idea!
