OT Hay rakes

Does anyone know anything about a rotary hay rake made by Niemeyer? My father in law thinks his NH 56 is leaving hay on the field??, so now he is looking at this thing. Were gonna go to the farm auction for it on Saturday. Im hopeing to pick up a pair of head locks. Thanks for any info on this kind of rake. J

That Niemeyer Rake is a rotary type of rake. I have used a rotary rake for ten years. I would not go back to a bar or wheel rake. A rotary rake will rake a fluffy windrow and doesn't twist the hay. Since it is PTO driven you can vary your rake speed and ground travel separate. Just check and make sure that the gear case is okay. They can be expensive to fix.

is this the auction on stoner's trail rd near rt. 67?
i have seen equip lined up there and saw a sign for an auction today but can't find any info and didn't have a chance to stop

also did you get anything at macfaddens...we just got the 3pt hitch forks...going to the lawn and garden auction this weekend...try to get a lawnmower still...the JD riding mower went for $1300 last weekend...outrageous.

Yes thats the one. Are you going to it? By the way did you get a lawn mower at Macfaddens? If not Springfield tractor has a lawn & garden auction on saturday the 3rd. I never went to it but always see it in the paper.

LOL, musta crossed posts, no I dident get anything at MacFaddens, and I just posted about the lawn auction! The 489 NH haybine for $800 would have been a good buy for parts for my 489 if I needed any. But I dident really need anything he had there.

how do you like the 489? we have a 479 and are looking to update with a 488 as it has a gearbox design similar to the 479...
prob. is you never see 488 for sale or @ auction...adn they are even still under production...barry meyers had lots of trouble with the gearbox on the 489...

i am torn on teh auctions...i just found the listing for the one on stoner's trail rd. and there are three riding lawnmowers and some misc. stuff...and, since this doens't seem to be the most well advertised auction and the crowd won 't necessarily be interested in riding mowers...maybe that would be the route to go...b/c @ macfaddens i'll be looking at tons of competition...
but then again, can't beat 100+ lawnmowers...esp. since i don't want anything pretty...just functional...its getting painted hot pink anyway.
who knows.

I do like my 489, I bought it at auction a few years ago in West Winfield for $1175.00. Works great, but 2 years ago the gear box or wobble box fell of it. The 4 bolts that hold it to the frame all sheared, broke or fell out. So we pulled it apart, put new bolts in w/loctite and it was fine. Last fall, the bolt holding the flywheel on came loose and ruined the flywheel, so I got a new one and put that on. Im lucky it dident damage the spline on the gear box?

The rotarys I've seen are hay grinders.made a nice windrow there was nothing left to bale.I'd never own one.
