Case 600 diesel

I am looking at buying a diesel tractor to restore this summer, and ran across a case 600 diesel. The engine overheated in 1987 (they forgot to put water in after storing it for winter)and it has been on blocks with a cap on the muffler since then. Supposedly the engine seized from overheating. Is this someting that is easily fixable? Also, what would be a reasonable offer to place on this tractor, given its condition? What would it be worth if it ran well?

If it was free you would be in the hole. Diesel overhauling if seized is expensive. You do not know what may have cracked. Are the tires good? How was the pump?

there are few nicer running diesel engines than a 500-600-900 Case. As stated it will not be cheap, on the other hand there aren't alot of 600's around so it would be sad to see it scrapped, a 900 engine will bolt in and are much more common though the ser. #'s won't match or 900 engine parts could be used to fix up the 600 if you are mechanically skilled so that labor isn't a factor except for machine work.

I would sure hate to see a 600 get scrapped. Best way would be to find a used engine, and coincidentally, I happen to have one! I'm in IL, email is open.
