Just have to shake your head.
Neighbor that I take my horse manure to has 2 greenhouses about 20x80 feet. Him, his Dad, and Brother built them themselves and done an outstanding job (been up 5 years with the original plastic). Anyway, went to deliver a load yesterday and the gate was locked. He came opened it and showed me why..
Someone, too tall and too big of feet for a kid, had went through with a knife and riddled both houses, opened his starter pits and opened up his chicken house so they could wipe everything out. He's pretty much ruined for this year.
Wouldn't want to be the one that done it if they find out who it was, and feel kinda sorry for the guy that he thinks done it. They are Russians and good folks but have some rough looking friends & family that pop in now and then.

That is just too bad. The old days of trusting folks are gone. I buy my feed from a farmer not too far away. It has always been just go in the barn and get what you need and then stop at the house to pay them. I was over there on Sunday afternoon and they are saying they may have to lock things up on Sunday mornings as someone has been coming and helping themselves while they are at Church. Just a few may ruin it for all.

Some folks (or maybe a group), rotates around the area and plants 1 hectare plots of flowers or pumpkin, squash, and watermelon on the honor system. They have money boxes made out of 1/4" steel with a slot in the top and set on a steel post in a 55 gallon barrel of concrete. someone went through last year and stole 15 or so from this area. The cash box setups were worth more than any money that could have been in them......

If it was me, I might offer to go babysit one Sunday morning with a camera and a cell phone. Let the sheriff know you'll be there. That might calm things down for years if you catch the right ones.

50 years ago those people existed - but they didn't do crap like that because it wasn't worth risking their lives. Now that we are all civilized what are they afraid of - certainly not the law.

sometimes it pays to say something to right person and the word will spread you are waiting for them. back a few years we had a problem with gas when fil was in hospital. neighbor and I worked a plan out but in meantime I mentioned to neighbor kid what was going on He said don,t do anything I think I know the problem and it cesaed right away. don,t think it was him but he knew who they were.

Vandalism, hatred, anger, meanness, fear of the law, doesn"t have any boundaries,
But if MOM and DAD would have spent a little more time with the child at a younger age things like this may have been a little different.

Stealing the cash boxes on the honor system.. That was more work than legitimate labor would have been. Not only that, but they will have to answer one day when they meet their maker. I think they really lost out in the long run.

A farmer friend was having gasoline stolen out of his(unlocked) bulk tank. I rigged a small transmitter to the supply hose that broadcast an FM signal to an old radio in his house. He heard the tone and called the police who caught them red handed. Restitution, fines AND jail time- no more theft and still no lock on the pump!

When I was a kid the farm we lived on had the two above ground tanks.Someone was always stealing gas. So my dad drained both tanks and then refilled them. Diesel went into the gas tank and gas into the diesel. Next day found out who was stealing gas. Found his truck on the side of the road. Tank full of diesel.

We had nearly the samething going on aourond our place, somebody was stealing gas from our farm tank. We don"t run that many machines old enough to be gassers anymore, so we just ran the tank as empty as we could then filled it with water. Two days later, there was an abandoned car 1/4 mile up the road. When I drove past on my way to work, i stopped to check the gas tank, and sure enough, it was full of water! Wrote down the license number and called the sheriff.

When we lived in Tucson a few years ago, someone was painting vulgar graffity all over our neighboorhood. As soon as it was covered up, it would be done again by next morning. My neighbor covered his up and hid out in his garage that night. Heard noise outside his garage and snuck out and caught a 17 yr old from the next block redhanded. He grabbed the kid, took his can of paint and emptied it into his hair. Next day, bald kid. No more graffity.

Buddy of mine knows someone who owns quite a bit of property he
does not live on. Someone was stealing his roundbales. He made
these steel barrel things sunk into the ground, and had trail
cameras in them. They caught the thieves not too long after, it was
the guy down the road.

Heard of a guy losing firewood at his place. Drilled a hole in a few pieces and filled with gunpowder. fixed the hole and smeared dirt on it. Stealing stopped. Don't try this at home.
