Hello all I need to go to kentucky this weekend and need to pick something up in a truck. I have a '96 F150 and to be honest...at times it has a hard time gettin around here at home ha ha. So i don't trust it that far from home. Has anyone rented a truck from enterprise ect. before and what are the rates for something like that. I havn't ever rented a vehicle before, never been on a plane, and never been out of indiana/illinois....any help would be greatful. Thank you-Ted

that's good to know...i could probobly fit everything in the bed if it's a 8 footer, but didn't know anything about them thanks!

I got them a couple of times for customers when I was a service manager at a car dealership. The supply was always limited on them. You should call them as soon as you can.

I cannot remember how much they cost. Don't be afraid to ask them if the deal they are giving you is the best they can do.

Might be worth poking around a few websites too.. Budget & Enterprise both have websites...

Another thought.. Budget, U-haul (and probably some of the others) rent some fairly small box trucks if what you're hauling will slide in.

First thing to do is either call Enterprise, Hertz, etc, or visit their website. You should be able to get almost all your questions answered there. Check with your insurance and/or your credit card company to see if you have coverage in a rented vehicle. If you do, you might be able to save some money by declining the rental company insurance.

Around here several of the buy here/pay here type car lots have put up signs say'n they rent cars. What they have on the lot might not be any better than what you have but might be worth looking into. There is one lot here that keeps a sign out say'n they will rent anything on the lot for $50/day.

Where 'bouts you going in God's country?

Dave

MSJ made a good comment. You aren't supposed to tow with rental trucks. I have rented pickups a couple of times in PHX. Did tow a small trailer but only a mile or so, just didn't tell them.

PU's are not the cheapest vehicles to rent but by far not the most spendy. I think it ran in the $30 to $40 a day range but not sure.

May be some milage restrictions, as in X miles per day. Also you will either need a vehicle on your insurance with full coverage or need to buy the insurance the rental company sells.

good luck

Always buy the rental insurance. If you don't, and have problems it can be a nightmare. Buy the rental insurance. It is worth every penny.

I have American Family Business insurance on my truck. Some 16 year old backed out of her driveway without clearing the frost off of her windows, and she hit me in the side doors. Enterprise scared me into getting their insurance by claiming my insurance would cover any damage, but not the 'out of service' time their vehicle would acquire. I told my agent about that and he HIT THE ROOF! He was using them for his customers who needed a rental and he got to the bottom of it-they were lying! So, yes, get the insurance if you NEED it, but check with your insurance first, as you may already be covered! Greg

if you need to haul something that you think will fit in a 8 foot bed, your better off and might be cheaper to rent a box van, u-haul, ryder, penske, whatever you have around, a 1 ton should do, then you also have a trailer hitch in case it wont fit, or if it does whatever it is is in out of the elements and away from theives,

Three years ago, I rented 1 from our local ford dealer. Pricing was fair at the time. Just make sure the gas tank is full when you return it.

I have rented from Enterprise in the past, both cars and trucks. I used to deliver their mail and if they had a vehicle that would not be rented for the weekend they would cut me a tremendous deal. Cheaper than I could have owned a vehicle for. Regardless of price they just wanted to show it was rented.

I came across an Ebay item in Iowa so inquired about renting a pickup just last year. All they had were short bed trucks, no long ones. And FYI you can never pull a trailer with one.

Just last week I read about new rental tactics to drive up the price for many rental agencies. Read your contract very closely before agreeing to it.

One tactic was not properly noting any damage when you pick the vehicle up, but charging you for it when returned.

CNN among others carried similar reports recently.
I did read that recent rates have gone up considerable---and understandably to a point.

I have never rented a pickup from them but I do rent a 14 foot box truck from them occasionally. They charge me $55 a day for it and it's always been a good or better truck. No mileage charge and if I rent it for a full week at a time the rate is cheaper but I don't recall what it is. Never had a problem.
