Hey Guys,

Maybe someone on here knows.

I sort of 'fell into' a pair of original Fender Twin Reverb amps. They just have an absolute killer tone when hooked in stereo and I want to show 'em off a little.

I'm thinkin' that I wanna build some videos for youtube, but I need a GOOD usb recording mic.

Which is the best? A Samson CO1U?

Thanks fer yer input.

Allan, you might consider using one of those media converter boxes to hook your big sound system to your computer.

Well,

I'm thinking that if I get the "correct" mic, I can capture the whole she-bang with just one input and do it all in one take.

I just did some searching, and I think maybe the Samson CO3u is the joker I need because it will gather the sound from all directions.

I've been doing music since I was 5 years old and think this is just a great tone when these old fellers are stereo(ed) up.

Just wanted you guys to hear it "live". :>)

dunno about all the digital mics allan. the fender twins put out some real nice warm tones, like the mesa boogies. if you have a mixer, i'd hang some akg d-112's, a couple shure 58 and 57's to get the full range from amps. the shure beta series are a real hot mic compared to the standard 58 and 57's.

Been toying around with doing something similar for a little while. I have been looking at the Samson you mention as well as a MXL USB 007. The MXL is a little more expensive, but still reasonable (~$120).

Can't wait to hear the recordings.

Let us know how it works. Nice pair of amps too. Whose garage did you dig those out of?

My longtime friend up in North Dakota passed away about a year ago. Best derned picker I ever heard, Chet not withstanding.

Anyway, I'm playing a dance last week and in walks his widow who just drove all the way down here from up north.

Wants me to have his music equipment. A couple of SP2's his Fred Rose equipped Strat and these two amps among a lot of other stuff.

Closest friend I've ever had and I guess she realized the fact.

I've recorded a lot of MP3's by using the line out on my system, but it always had a cold, edgy tone to it. Never did like the way they sounded.

So, I'm thinkin' maybe one of these new usb outfits will pick up the "ambience" like I hear it here.

I'll get 'er rigged up and run off a few. We'll see what happens. :>)

You better hurry along with that project. Spring is coming someday and you won't have time, lol

Aren't those old Fender tube amps all the rage these days again? Not that you are looking to sell (or wouldn't rather have your friend back), but that was a significant bequest.

Still waiting for the recording ;)

Have fun with those and as somebody mentioned, Spring will come to NE one of these days so you better get this project finished while you have time.

I've got one of the old Music Man 212's that Leo Fender designed when he left Fender in the seventies. You can get some hot lead sound out of it also.I play a Telecaster through it and get a lot compliments on the sound. The Twin Reverbs and the Music Mans were great for playing my kind of country music.

As long as we got this O/T subject going....and there seems to be some amp knowledge here, does anyone know anything about Budda Stringmaster amps? They are tube type as well. Any info would be appreciated.

Don't know if this is your kinda thing, but I just happened to run across this as I was reading your post. Everyone wanted to sound like Ed back when, this guy nails it. And he's not even in a band, just likes to noodle around. Wish I could play like that.

Ed said a big part of his sound was a device he made called a VARIAC. He took a dimmer light switch and put it in line in front of his amp, lowered the input voltage so he would stop burning out tubes. In the article I read it said in big bold letters "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME"!!!
