Ritchie Bros

On tuesday I'm going to my neighbors auction who is hog farmer who went out of business. Most of the equipment is big stuff but there is some old small things I'm interested in like a post hole auger and an old roller. Condition of almost everything is average at best. At a ritchie bros sale does this stuff usually go cheaper if the big stuff is in better shape? Never been to one and I'm curious. Thanks.

Pray for a sunny warm day where everyone is home working.

Other than that, the only sure bet with any auction is there's no sure bets.

I've been to a couple Richie auctions. Most stuff sold high at both of them. Mix of newer nice stuff and older worn out junk. They advertise heavily and usually draw nice crowds.

Steve,

I know Ritchie Bros. auction company is big, and they no doubt have too much money as the name indicates.

They have a huge spread in Ft. Worth,Texas and also in Minneapolis,Minnesota.

Ritchie bros. is the biggest auction company in the world. They usually have a 10% fee added to everything under $2500. Not sure at a farm sale though if they do. If it's a big sale and especially on small stuff, if you want to bid, bid right away cause they don't fool around for 10 minutes like some auctioneers do. If stuff is being bid on and then stops, if they don't get a bid in about 5 seconds it will be sold. If stuff goes down real cheap like $25 or $50 for the opening bid, sometimes they just sell it to the first bidder. At a farm sale you never know what will happen. I've seen good equipment go real cheap and small junk sell for a fortune. I guess sometimes more people have money for the small stuff. Dave

RB auctions almost ~always~ go high. The best you can often hope for is paying a 'fair' price for something. Do your homework beforehand as to what the items of interest to you are worth...
Not even a driving rain storm will keep people away from one here. They just don the large garbage bag with holes for head and arms... and the bidding continues.

The smaller things went cheap at the Ritchie auction I went to. They didn't mess around and kept things moving. I go to alot of auctions and this was on of the better ones i've been to.

They're selling it by unreserved auction at the the end of the month. Anyone interested in bidding has to put a refundable deposit down of 2,000,000 Euros. They just had a 3 day auction here with over 4000 registered bidders as well as a whole bunch more internet bidders. Probably well over 100 million worth of equipment sold. Dave
