A close call with death

This is from a few years ago, but I just found it on Youtube. I made my wife and kids watch it. Asked them what the guy did wrong to start the accident. My son said, "He didn't shut it off before working on it." Then he said,"Kind of like you did when we were setting that hay feeder down." HMMMMM. It is so EASY to short-circuit safety when you are in a hurry or complacent.

The video is an interview, but kind of graphic, just to let you know.

A close call with death.

He has a strong will to live, it is unimaginable to be in a situation like that, arm caught in machinery, then a fire to put out and an arm to cut off with the other hand. Sure reminds a person to never be in a hurry, shut the darned thing off 1st and or keep your distance, or whatever the problem is, let it go, that is just unreal what he did to survive this.

There are people here and else where after seeing that. They will still argue and fight to the death. Claiming they have no need for rops, chain/belt gaurds, pto shields/covers. And no need or use for shutting down and locking out equipment during sevice.
I don't know if it's denial or they really believe they are too fast, strong, smart and tough to get hurt.

The greatest line in the video is when he's refering to the just started fire: "So then I knew I was in trouble". This after being caught & bleeding for an hour, and hacking away at his own hand!

Ugh. Never work on equipment unless it is 100% shut down. It only takes one little slip up for everything to go so badly wrong. We've all done plenty of stupid crap around farm equipment, but sooner is better than later to start paying attention and being safe.
