Well since the glennster posted pictures of his hot rods, couple of pictures of our guys today. Know what it is? Nope, not an Essix Bi-directional.

Did have help from the Peoria County Highway Department.

Notice the dip from the center pier to the outer abutment - Pretty sure it wasn't built that way!

Job for the county - yes. BBBUUUTT, they were waiting for us to get out, traffic control and pull the temporary access before leaving.

PS: Our third guy was taking pictures!

yeah every jack a$$ jumps on the county guys and gives no thought to all the hours pushing snow, go ahead and trade with them, you do their job and take there pention but they get your net worth built totaly tax free as you did.

auger rig being used for foundation exploration. doesn't apear to be a CME, possibly a Longyear? been away from that type work since 1974. leroy

Kruser - what did you find down there? Are those concrete piling or concrete encased? Makes you wonder if someone messed up the pile bearing calcs.

Nice drill, by the way.

geeezz kruser, thats an easy one. 1954 farmall super hta diesel with a crawler conversion and a feteral tubeless grain auger. throws grain in any direction!!!! and, it 'll pull 6 - 16's in 4th high in heavy gumbo!!!

Good call.
We've always run CME equipment but with 1-1.5 year wait time for new equipment, we bought a Deidrich B-50 on Monroco tracks.
Driller says it gets it done but not quite like a CME!

Have you seen the new DOT shirts? The pocket is sewed on up side down so you can stick the shovel handle in and lean forward. You don"t have to hold the shovel. DH

PJH:
Bridge was built back in the 50's and then redecked about 10 years ago. Piers and abutments are supported on H pile to shale. Our investigation indicates that the shale is kinda soft and has shatered with the heavier wheel loads.
JJJUUUSSTT, my opinion and you may want to contact your local engineer/attorney for legal advice.
Thanks John T

By the way - Where are you at? I'm near Peoria, Il.

glennster:
Just because it's red - doesn't mean it's a Farmall.
Kinda think you've been spraying way too much 2105 paint, or the MIL is on you to help with the garden! Don't burn too much this weekend.

Jim

Kruser - I'm near Carbondale. I worked in construction for IDOT District 9 for 33 years.

I wondered about the piling up in your area. We almost always used H-pile driven to refusal down here. Only once remember using metal shell piling, and never saw concrete piling driven, but always wanted to. Timber for temporary stuff. Some of the H-pile drives deep here, but one pier only drove 15 feet to refusal. Had to cable it off to keep it upright until we could get the beams pinned.

I miss the work, but not the traffic.
Good pictures!!

Paul

Good one DH. I'll remember that to tell my old IDOT work buddies.

I used to tell folks that one of the guys had a heart attack at work, and they hauled three of us away before they got the right one.

Hey Jim- You coming t the I&I auction in Penfield Saturday? Starts at 10:00, Aumann's is doing it. Let me know if you can make it--

work for a highway dept. We don"t need the shirt with the upside down pocket, we just had the Japanese make us a shovel that would stand by it self so we could laugh at all you IDIOTS that pay taxes to pay our wages. By the way the next time it snows could you come out and run my snow plow so I can set at home and tell everyone what a bunch of stupid people the county hires to plow snow. Thanks in advance.

Well you better get used to folks hasseling you, and quit letting it get under your skin. I used to let it bother me, but the same guys that give me a hard time are the ones who call and want me to figure grade on a pipe that will barely drain, or shoot in a fence line over hill and dale. They're not bad people, they're just looking for entertainment. If you get red faced and mad when someone razzes you, they'll never let up.

Thanks for all the plowing you did for us this winter.

Paul

The county snow plow crew does good here.

The state (Minnesota) has sure fallen down. Sheez. They don't plow often any more, and on a 2 mile stretch musta been training in the new guy - the state road I travel, that 2 mile stretch has 5 spots where many guard rail posts were snapped off. Some cable coiled up too. They even got the big metal post that held the flashing lights for the signal light ahead - that was a reach, it was set back pretty far from the road.

Now,as to the upside down pockets, you just need to point out the reason us farmers have such curved cap brims - from peering in the mailbox every day looking for the govt checks.

It's all fun.

Jim:
Real glad we don't have to come up with the "fix" on this one - just did the drilling and "rock" coring. Consultant structural and geotechnical engineers are working on this for the county.

Jim - but you can call me James (if James Howell is on the grid)
