Farmall-Cracked motor sleeve

I purchased a Farmall H pretty cheap. When I got it running it was smoking badly. After taking the head off, I found that the #2 cylinder sleeve had a crack in it. I can find no cracks in the block. Will replacing the sleeve solve the problem or is the block junk? If replacing the sleeve will solve the problem, does anyone have a good sleeve I can purchase? Thanks, EZ R

Pull another sleeve out and compare the two holes. If all the measurements are pretty close I'd throw another sleeve in there and see what happens. Sam

If the crack was caused by freezing in the cylinder, it could have cracked both the dry sleeve, and the cylinder bore (they are dry sleeve engines). If cracked in both, it will need to be bored and a repair sleeve installed, then that will be bored to receive the dry sleeve. This is the repair of choice if the block wall is also cracked.
If not, a new sleeve can be installed. The new sleeve should be a slip fit to about 1/2 to 60% of the way into the hole. If it is, it will be fine. I freeze the new sleeve then drop it in the hole pounding it the last inch or so with a wooden block and a mallet. Good luck. Jim
