B&D, did you ever get to boil down any more sap?. Weaher here seems good for sugaring, must be ok for were you are. Just thought Id ask. J

In eastern MA, we have had no sap for about a week due to warm weather and record rainfall. The forecast looks equally bleak. No overnight frosts for the foreseeable future. Our season may be over. I think we have had only six good days this season. Western MA may do better due to its higher elevation. Most of the MA producers are located west of the Conneticut River anyway. This is one of the reasons why VT vastly outproduces NH.

Poor season thus far.We had several nights with above freezing temps.
The soil in the woods/bush/forest is too dry for the tree roots to draw. The winter snow evaporated off the top with the warm winds and direct sunlight. Hardly any water puddles or mud to be found.
Some worries with the extended warm weather and swelling leaf buds that the sap will soon turn dark & bitter.
Still good fun for my 79yr old father to go back with the JD 70 gasser rowcrop. We take turns providing help. Father tapped some of the trees and carries some of the sap to the trailer.
I just wish he didn't boil the syrup so thick. I prefer the syrup thinner and lighter. There is also about 1-1/2 times more syrup when thinner.
Only 125 trees so the operation is hobby sized.
