Toyota sales

It's reported that Toyota sales are up. I would have to wait till there's an actual solution found.
"reported a rise in sales for the first 8 days of March
of 50 % many of which were the Prius and Camry which seem
to be the most problematic. "

Seems the MSM's propaganda campaign ain't work'n. They must slander harder!

The guy on TV this week from the run away prius I think is about as credible as the balloon boy's dad.

Just remember, statisticaly speaking, drive'n a Toyota is much safer than ride'n shotgun with a Kennedy!!!!!

The guy in Ca that was recently on the news over his ordeal has somewhat of a shady background. They are finding lots of holes in his story . says he was bankrupt . There are alot of people trying to cash in on this . Makes you wonder just how many ACTUAL problems there really are , and how many are crooks trying to make a fast buck ? The number of reported problems from prior years compared to this year after the media has hyped it al up has over quadrupled. I 'm not sticking up for toyota , it sure is bringing out the questionable stories .

I hate those media driven product "kills".

Kinda like the Firestone tire/Ford Explorer debacle.

Duffus people never checked their tire pressures, ran 'em too low and have an accident. Media gets ahold of it and drives the tire company out of business.

I wonder though, how many people out there decide to try to find out if it is really true. For instance, I remember back when the suzuki samarai's where deemed unsafe by Consumer Reports, a couple of young adults in my home town took one for a test ride to see if they really would tip, they did.

I have to admit, if I had one of the toyota's, I would probably be stabbing at the throttle to see if it would stick. It would be kinda like when there is snow on, and the first thing I do is hit the gas hard to see how slick it is, then stab the brakes to get a feel for it too. Of course, that would be when there were no poles or cars around to run into.

I have a Toyota that has 160,000+ miles and has been virtually trouble free and would buy another if this one ever wears out.Would not buy a Gov't Motors vehicle period.

Sales are up from what? Meaning they are up since the first 8 days this problem was announced, up from the last time they had a major recall etc.......

I am not knocking your post.

I don't knock people for what they drive but speaking for myself I have only ever owned Ford or GM, just felt most comfortable that way regarding parts and service. In the classic stable I have some Dodge and GM cars.

Good reply MSJ. Probably up from the zero they were selling when they voluntarily stopped selling their problem vehicles. Putting out a press release like that is only for the purpose of getting people to think it is ok to buy their cars. The old philosophy of "if other people are doing it, it must be ok".

I own several older Toyotas, but I wont be buying a new one any time soon.Far too many important functions are now computer controlled so almost anything is possible in one of them.

Some run away Toyotas may have been faked, but I really doubt that all of them were. What used to work in a run away vehicle just a few years ago no longer works.

The computer I"m sitting at right now locked up last night and I ended up having to unplug it from the wall for awhile.

Remember the Audi fiasco where they owners claimed sudden acceleration as they drove though buildings, and ran over people?

I'll bet all other car companies are hoping that they don't have any bugs in their control systems just ready to surface and torpedo their sales.

I remember it well.

Lawyers and the media ruined Audi for a decade for self-serving interests.

And how big of a percentage of Mazda does Ford own ??? I didn't look up any figures but I know they do as that's what every Ranger truck is.

Toyota wanted to be just like GM and Ford well I think they did a good job of that ! They should of been more open from the start too.

Think about this: when you ain't sellin' nothin' and then you sell five cars, then yes, sales are up.

Basically, what this is all about is Toyota falling asleep at the switch for awhile and thinking their reputatuon would see them through. Then "bammy" saw a chance to go for the jugular so he sicced that barely functional idiot Ray La Houd on them by having him go out and say a lot of crap to our wonderful media.

Someone once said, "In today's world there's no such thing as bad publicity." Think of how the media have put the Toyota logo front and centre, then look at all those old Toyotas still running. Add a ghoulish instinct to profit from lower prices because of the company's discomfort. Then there's the Internet buzz about the latest fraudster trying to cash in on a "runaway" Prius, and a buyer just might be prepared to test the waters in the Toyota showroom.

mike m just to set it straight you have that backwards. all mazda pickups are ford rangers. there are really no mazda pickups.

Here is the deal, when you are developing advanced equipment by building tomorrows automobile, you end up with some things that get overlooked. It is tragic that people may have been killed, but the media has basically been presenting Toyotas case of advanced engineering, and sales are up. fly by wire throttles are used on jet fighters, hybrids are unheard of from the us until they were forced into competing.

When you are developing decades old automobiles, you need to find any reason to put the other guy in the hot seat.

Government Motors, and Chrysler dosent exist in my (check) book.

I havent been to the repair shop in 15 years, and none of my autos are engineered here in the states. First 100k is a given with regular service, after that you need to decide if you want to keep it until 250, 350, or 400k.

I just dont trust the us stuff because of the crooked corporate types.

Ford currently owns 13% of Mazda. They have no controlling stake in the company.
