i have a 1993 ford f350. i have replaced all lines new wheel cylinders shoes and pads adjusted brakes one new caliper on front. i have a soft brake pedal bleed half gallon of fluid throgh the lines adjust brake booster until brakes would hang up, but the brakes worked good as far as pedal respone. backed off booster adjuster and have a soft pedal. i have also taken out the anti lock brake control module. still soft any suggestions????

Fords are notoroius for this. The older ones esepcially. Im not really sure what the fix is mine always had good brakes tho, so I just got use to a soft pedal

Make sure your line to the booster is not leaking vacuum. Are the calipers releasing and compressing right?I like to have the end of the truck off the ground and have someone breaking while you spin the individual wheels to see if it is breaking ang releasing right.

CHECK THE BRAKE PROPORTION VALVE JUST ABOVE THE REAR AXLE. IT ADJ THE AMOUNT OF BRAKE USED IN THE REAR ACCORDING TO LOAD. MINE WAS LEAKING PAST THE SEAT BUT NOT VISUAL AND IT CAUSED A SOFT PEDAL. YOU DIDN'T SAY THE YEAR ,BUT ON ALL OF MY 97 AND EARLY TRUCKS HAD THEM .

its a 93 no proprotioning valve above axle. it had the anti lock brake valve (controlled anti lock brakes) ford mechanic said to take it off, that and it cost 500. goes brake -booster-master cylinder-lines-calipers (front) drums(rear) thats it ????

Vacumn leak some where. My f450 had soft brakes until I found the main vac line was unhooked.Heater controls would not work, now they work fine. Made sure the line won't come off again.

Mine has always had a soft brake pedal and no matter what all you do it,it will always have a soft pedal.I've replaced everything more than once.A friend thats a mechanic says that most Ford F-350's were that way new.

The process for bleeding brakes is you start with the farthest one from the mastercylinder which is the right rear then move to the left rear then right front and left front. For the caliper make sure you got the right one for the side it is on. If you put the left on the right the bleeder screw will be on the bottom side and the hose on top and you'll never get the air out. Same goes for the rear brake cylinders, the bleeder screw should be above the brake line. I've seen people replace these items on fords before and say what you're saying. Make sure your brake push rod has a 1/8" free play before activating the mastercylinder.

I forgot to mention IH trucks with dual wheel cylinders on each wheel on the back need to be filled before installation. This makes bleeding the brakes much easier and takes much less time.

I have been through this more times than I care to talk about, but there is a fix. Ford under designed the size of the master cylinder on these trucks ,but you will never get them to admit it.If you replace it with the master cylinder from a Super Duty,it is larger and will take care of the problem. I have done at least a half dozen and they work great.. I have a NAPA part number for the one you need and I will try to post it tomarrow when I get back to the shop.

if you don't have a;power bleeder,, then it can be a real challange to get them bleed. one trick i have learned is i go to lowes and get a pice of clear plastic line that well fit tight on the bleeded screws, then run it up to top of bed so as i pump the brakes i can see the fluid. doing it this way when you let off the brakes fluid well go back in but no air well. i have on a 2 ton truck run the line all the way back to the master cly, and just pumped fluid through tell it was good solid flow. this way you dont looes a lot of brake fluid. and one person can bleed the brakes.
