Well there where not many good buys but there where a few. I picked up a used front tri rib tire that was about 60% for $6 and 2 shovels for $10 and a Wheel barrow for $25.
One 8N front mount type sold for $1100 an the other didn't sell because price was to low. JD-M with wide front, sickle mower and 2 bottom plow sold for $2500. NH256 rake sold for $700 and the NH850 baler sold for $650, my partner went half's on it with me and I had the fun or not so fun job of pulling it home behind my Mitsubishi Pick up truck. Ya it probably was as heavy if not more then the truck was. I took my sweet time and maybe hit 50 a few times to get up speed for the next hill. My partner followed behind me in has rented truck

rich, sounds like ya did ok at the auction. i enjoy going to our local consignment auctions. get to see a lot of people i havent seen in quite a while, get a chance to pick up some good stuff too. and nuthin beats a grilled pork chop sammich and a hot cup of coffee for lunch served by the ffa kids!!! woo-hoo!!!!!! and i'll share my super secret auction tip with ya. i go out to the barn and find an empty spot. measure length width and height with a tape measure. then when ya go to preview at the auction, what ever i find that will fit in that spot is gonna go home with me!!!! corse the last couple times i had to push some junk around the shed with the loader cause my measurements must have been off a little!!!

Oh forgot one tractor that sold. It was an IH504 and it sold for $1800 or 1900, that was one I wish I had the money to have picked up because it was worth at least twice that, real good tires all the way around

hey old, don't you already own a new holland 850 baler, there is one for sale by me, I was thinking about buying it are they a decent baler? I'm probably going to bale around a hundred bales a year.

Howdy Rich, Wouldn't mind having the 504 either. Did it have the 2 pt hitch? I'm thinking some did and some didn't.

Good price for the NH 256 Rake and 850 baler. If it has any life left to it I'm sure you will get some good bales out of it for quite a few years.

How much will an 852 sell for? If I recall, they were the first with the auto-wrap.

I went to one this morning, but I only hung around for about 45 minutes. Just WAY too much plunder and the auctioneer was too slow to stop quick. 5 jewelery wagons plus a bunch of stuff on the ground before he got to the big stuff and after 45 minutes he was only about half done with the first wagon.
Wasn't anything there that I gave a rats rearend about after I got there anyway.

Yep I have had a NH850 for years and that is why I wanted to get another one. To me they are good older balers that as long as you keep them oiled and grease will bale just about any thing. They do make a big heavy bale which is ok. Most of my bales come in around 2000lbs

This 504 had the fast hitch but also had to 3 point set up with it.
As for the NH850 I have been using one for about 10 years now and like it and this one is in better shape then the one I already have so it might hold up to my partner better. Ya he is hard on stuff he doesn't watch as close as he should and does not listen to the machine so he does not hear it braking down.
As for the 852 not sure but I think the 851 was the first to have auto wrap and I know where there is an 851 right now for $500

Cant find a NH 256-258 rollbar around for less than $2000.00 hardly. I have a New Idea, rubber mount teeth. Works good, but looses teeth. It is better for tight turns than the NH because the up/down adjustment is inside the frame, were the NHs are outside the frame, so the tractor tire rubs it on a tight turn. Good price thought for the 256.

2000 lbs with a chain baler? I had a 852 and could only get about 1200 lbs max no matter what I did! How do you do it

I guess it is the same old thing location, location, location, NH 256 rakes have to be in tip top shape with good teeth and rubber to bring 600 to 700 here every one wants the rotary finger rakes. Was at a big feed lot closing sale today 2 256 rakes with a homemade deal to run them together only brought $ 750 or so and both rakes were pretty nice. Too many 850 rollers wore out in this part of the country they are cheap, Have been to auctions where they could not even get a scrap bid on them. Guess it depends on where you are.. Two crank and running farmall M s with air in the tires sold today for $ 725.00 ea and you will see them on here all time wanting 2 thousand +

852 and an 850 are to different animals. Now I do not know the 852 but I do have a junk 851 here and it makes a smaller bale so I'll guess an 852 would also. Now as per the manual an 850 will make a bale that is 900-1500 but if you slow down and have a good stand of hay you can make them real heavy. The first year I used my 850 behind my Oliver Super 88 I didn't know that I needed to use 3rd gear and I used first and it was all I could do to get a bale spike in one and my Ford 841 with loader could not pick one up and I had to use the cat 950 to move my bales

Okay, thanks for the update on the 504. Don't know why, but always liked that model.

Those are some good prices on the rake and baler. I know everyone has there own opinions. When I worked at New Holland, had some experiences with the 851. That baler would have to be in new condition for me to even give it a glance much les a first look. Now if it was an 848 or an 855...DAMN Right...those were some good balers.

No both were nice NH 256.. Can get you a load of them rounded up next winter for average of $ 500.00 if you want. Just more of them in this area than the market needs..Currently have 3 sitting here. Hay time gets here about $ 600.oo is tops. Usually sell running bayler and rake to these small want to be farmers for $ 2,500.00 total. Getting a couple of baylers ready now.
