Coyotes-rampant lately

Boy, they have been running this area/valley hard lately, howling during mid-day, at night, usually they come and go, not sure what is up with that but anyone else see this kind of behavior ? The daytime thing sure is odd.

Well, theres is 1 less, trusty springfield m1a and reg mil ball ammo, 100+ yards, kind of my all purpose rifle, one of my favorites, though a little overkill for one of these, of what I have it is what I shoot best, even the ruger ranch in .223. Have not fired a shot since deer season, sat down next to a post, rested up, bullseye.

Still bugs me to kill something I won't eat, but he was missing all the fur on his tail, scratchin like heck and chewing on some deer legs, be it disease, mange or what, he'd been in a few fights, ear missing a piece, figured dispatching him might save the neighbors dog/cat someone having a confrontation with a rabid one.

Funny I havent heard them up here like I usally do. Could be do to the fact we had so much snow week before last. I dont know! If so were would they go? Migrate to areas with less snow! They will be back soon most likely.

There are a lot of them and the States won't put the bounty back on or hire people to control them. Pretty they take over the place like the Sea Lions have we need a new that that once an animal reaches a certain level it has to be taken off the protected list.
And just wait till the Wolves are back at full strength and hungry.

OH an all those stories of people being attacked by wolves are pure fiction.

They"ve taken nearly 200 out of the 2 townships that we have farms in. Lots more out there, with the majority being very mangy.

I'm in huron county in sw ontario and they are getting really bad. In the day time they've been going into the chicken manure pile at my sisters and won't spook at all. They've killed all my neighbours ducks and the packs at night seem to be getting right up to side of our house.

Saw an interesting study not long ago that said with the near wipeout of the coyote in the east back in the middle of the last century, the ones that have came back (and they"ve came back with a vengeance!) came through Canada and picked up a good dose of wolf genes along the way. It"s not at all uncommon here in northern NY to get 50+ lb coyotes, which is one sign of wolf genetics.

Does anyone have any rifles left to shoot them with in Ontario? I heard the Canadian government backed off on the registration/confiscation plan, cost way too much and wasn't working! Some western provinces refused to go along with it, alright!

We have a continuous open season on them here in Iowa for shooting. Coyote's will overbreed once the packs aren't at "normal' levels so it's extremely difficult to manage them. At the same time though, they haven't been a big problem on livestock here except for free roaming chickens. They cause some havock on the pheasant population also. All in all they have a good enough food source and stay out of site, and pretty quiet during the day. I think I'd take the coyotes over the wolves and cougars.

No, you don't want a pack of cougars. They have been known to kill people. As far as I know, coyotes have yet to kill anyone, but it's just a matter of time.

I think he was talkin about two legged cougars , but they have been know to take a mans soul and leave him poor , he he .

At least one of them made it down to Manhattan just recently. Way down south by the Battery. Police chased him some distance. They were going to try to dart him but could never get a good shot. He gave them the slip up around midtown and hasn't been seen since. They called him "Wily Coyote".

The one I killed yesterday was of the smaller variety, but looked bigger through the binoculars. Seems they have shorter legs than a dog, smaller body, but not much, the head was full size like a dog. I have seen ones that were much bigger and healthier, not very often, but you do see them.

We never had any here until 6-10 years ago, or at least I never heard, saw signs of them, there was a long gap since the mid-late 60's which was the last time I heard of one being taken around here. One animal I was shocked to see around here was a Bobcat.

Didn't have them around our neck of the woods until about 20 years ago. Have a farm about 45 miles away always take M-1 carbine with me. since I ran upon some on farm.
