Year a Round Cab

Is a Year-a-Round model QT-1 a ROPS cab?
Are any of the after markets such as Excell or Hinniker a ROPS cab?

I think most of the aftermarket cab manufacturers began making sheet metal boxes with doors and windows. My Ford 8000 has such a Cozy Cab. It is definitely not roll over protection. If the tractor rolls, the cab will crush and probably kill the driver.

But my just a few years later Hiniker 1200? series cab on Ford 9000 is definitely roll protection. Sometime in the mid 70's, govt regulations required all cabs to be tested and certified for roll protection, and they should have some kind of certification plate attached.

The Year Around Cab was certified for roll protection, but I do not know which cab models.

Some of the early OEM cabs were not capable of withstanding roll over. Minneapolis Moline had a strange cab with rear entry door that was way too soft. By 1979 all cabs had to be tested and certified.

The Hiniker 1300 model was roll over protected and the 900 model Hiniker was not. The Year a Round Qt-1 is also protected because there was a law suit between the two companies over copying each other in cab design. I know this first hand because I worked 8 years in R&D at Hiniker Co. I participated in the testing of the cab for certification. We mounted it on a 1466 IHC and ran ropes for steering out the back. attached a small cable to the fuel shut off on the pump so we could kill it imediatly upon roll-over so as not to hurt engine. We took it down to a hillside where some contractor had dug out some clay to do the testing. You would be surprised how hard it is to roll a tractor when you want to. First we were going to roll it on its side but it would not crawl up the bank. It kept vereing off and following the bank. Took three tries before it rolled. Oh buy the way we had built a protective structure around the radiator. We rolled it on both sides and then over backwords. The cab held up perfect with only a little bend to the corners of the roof. No damage to the tractor at all. We then put a new roof on the cab and took off the grill gaurd and used that tractor on the farm for many years. The tractor was real trouble free but I never thought That 1466 pulled very good compared to the 4430 JD. Maybe just the way we had it set up. I don't know.

Oh I might add that a few days ago someone posted how those after market cabs were just sound amplifiers. In there day when they were fresh off the line they were relatively quiet. If they were installed as per manufactures recamendations they had foam under and around the cowl and foam ceiling and wheel wells and sound absorbing floor mat and glued to all the filler plates. But as that foam deteriorated people would not replace it and so to sit in an old one today, yes it is very noisy.
