Tractor duals question

Never done this before, but a first time for everything. I am thinking about putting duals on
my D17. I assume that the tires should all be the same size, correct? If one set were loaded and the
other not, which should be mounted on the tractor and which on the outside? Also, what kind of
hardware would I need to make this installation? Any other suggestions would be welcome, too.

Thanks in advance for your help.

the tires should all be the same height, and the duals should be the same width or narrower than the inside tires, and the duals should have less tread than the inside. for example, a 15.5-38 and 13.6-38 have the same height, so a 13.6 can go outside a 15.5. shouldn't do the other way around. a 14.9-38 has a taller sidewall than the other 2, so it shouldn't be mixed. the principle is, the inside tire should take most of the weight and do most of the pulling. if the dual has too much weight or too much traction, it will put excessive strain on the attaching hardware, especially on turns and uneven ground.

I had 16.9 duals on my first D17, in 1972, a series I. I simply hooked the J-bolts of the band duals over the end of the rails that the wheel slides in and out on. Never came loose. You could also put hooks in the four holes already in the wheel center, and hook the J-bolts to them.

There are several different kinds you can put on it. First off loaded tires to the inside, A-C made a hub that bolts the the tractors rim and the dual bolts up to it in the center. Now as far as the rest go, there are several types of clamp on duals that use a 5/8 J bolt. There are T Rails, clamp on, And fixed bolt rims. These all use J bolts that hook to the slide rails on the tractor. The tire size should be the same on the tractor and duals. A 15/16 wrench or deep well socket will tighten them up. Bandit
