I bought a Farmall M that has some ratty tires on it.
They're 12.4X38's. Can I go with a wider tire? IE 13.6x38 or 15.5X38 on the same rim?

Thanks!

My 1951 M has had 15.5x38's since 1973, it's been a good tire size for it. Don't know about rim size on it though.

Yes, 15.5;s look good, actually in my own opinion
the 14.9's look the best there taller then the
15.5's... but anyway i did put 15.5's on a 10" rim
and it didnt go very well they look awful really
really pinched. Went to a set of 12.4's and look
right again. For years my father ran 13.6's on his
Super H, 10" rim. He then went to the 11" rim
better fit yet. But those 13.6's were not bad at
all on those 1o"ers.

depending on what your plans are for this M, a lot of people widen rims to accommodate the wider tire.

Orignal size on the early M was an 11" tire that became the 12.4 tire, later M's were shipped on 12" tires that became the 13.6 size with most of the early tractors being put on the 13.6. The 15.5 is the same diameter as a 13.6 and for use does not speed up the tractor like the bigger sizes do and if you are going to use the pto then that is something you need to address. Cannot say for sure on rim size but if me and for use if I could put on duals for ground work I would go with 13.6, if duals are not an option and wanting to work ground I would go with 15.5 and not worry about looks as they will work on that rim. The larger sizes I would not even look at due to the speed increase and coresponding power loss.
