Farm Implement News Tractor Field Book

Hi

I have posted a similar message to this on the Literature / Memorabilia and International Harvester forums on this website.

I am fortunate to have inherited 3 tractor field books from my Dad when he passed away. One is a 1950, one a 1953 and a 1955. I also recieved a 1957 tractor red book.

I see both of these types of books on E-bay for sale occasionally. My questions are:

WHAT WAS THE FIRST AND LAST YEARS OF EACH OF THESE PUBLICATIONS? and DID RED BOOK TAKE OVER THE PUBLICATION OF THE TRACTOR FIELD BOOK?

The latest tractor field book I have seen on E-bay is from 1956 whereas the latest red book is from the mid 1980's.

Thanks for any replies, Ross.

I believe that the Tractor Field Book,Implement & Tractor Red Book,I&T Product File, and Farm Implement News are all from the same company and started putting annual books out in 1918 and some bi-montly books a little later. I've got over a hundred of them up to 1966. They started business in 1886.

Tractor Field book was the first (I believe).
I've got them 1928 to 1959.

Implement & Tractor Red Book I've got up to 1966.

There is also another series called Farm & Power Equipment that was done by a separate company, NRFEA in St. Louis, MO.

I got 14 Tractor Red Books on the ads section right now for sale- see ad #373560. I just sold a bunch of Tractor Field Books last Friday. I find them super neat to look thru and theres lots of information!

Don't think they were all put out by the same company. I have 1947 & 1958 The Tractor Field Book copies and on front cover they state were published by Farm Implement News Co., Chicago, IL. Have Farm Implement News 1951 Buyers Guide Issue also from Chicago and covers states they were founded in 1882. Also have 1951 Edition of Implement Tractor, I & T Catalog File. If was the same company why were they publishing 2 with near the same info ? I&T Catalog File had ad depts in Chicago, Cleveland, NYC, Los Angeles, & San Francisco but were part of ABC, Implement Trade Journal Co. in Kansas City, KS. Later I have up to 1993 Implement & Tractor Red Books that were put out in March each year and Implement & Tractor Product File that came out in October of each year published then by Implement & Tractor of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Argus Agronomics a division of Argus Inc. of Clarksdale MS. Then Implement & Tractor was a registered trade mark of Argus Inc. Whether they are still around today I don't know ?
