Just wondering about these tractors as I don't really know much about them. The one I'm interested in is a 1997 4wd cab with Deere 540 SL loader. 16x16 with LHR. Is that a PS trans or standard. Is it a wet clutch or dry? How are the electronics on them? Are they reliable/any big issues? Quiet cab? Comfortable? It Has 3800 hours and looks to be in decent condition. What is a good price for this tractor? TIA

My grand dad used to have one that I put a lot of hours on with no real problems I can recall and my neighbor also still has one that is used regularly and he seems happy with it. I think its got over 5000 hrs on it. They were both open station though. Great loader tractor IMO as long as you have the LH reverser. Should be 4 ranges you pretty much have to stop to shift if I remember right but you could shift the 4 synchro gears real easy on the fly. I remember the hydraulic clutch being the best part of the tractor, very smooth and easy to finesse the tractor into tight spots. One finger steering no problem too even with the big 4wd front tires. I have no idea what a good price is but I think if you get a good deal you won"t be disappointed.

According to JDparts.com PC # 2332 - 5200, 5300, 5400 and 5500 Tractors - 04May09 ( FR ES )
Hyd reverser 5500 tractors have a manual operated foot clutch not hyd clutch.
