crawler/track loader

hey, i was looking into buying a Oliver Crawler OC 46 B.. i was wondering if this would be a good woods tractor? and also is it easy or cheap to find parts for these tractors? are they worth the money? thank you

Much depends on what it is you want to do in the woods. And worth? Worth whatever somebody pays for it and nobody knows what its worth to you.

I've got several and they're real handy in tight places since they're small. As far as parts go, the little Cletrac and Oliver HGs, OC3s, and OC4 series are probably one of the more common small crawlers, so there are new and used parts to be found. A heck a lot more common then a TerraTrac. Also there's a place in PA that specializes in them (parts and repair).

Lou from Wisconsin has been rebuilding one and has many posts over at the crawler forum. You might want to take a look.

i was planning on it to move wood and dirt, and pull trees out from the woods that i cut down, also i would like to make trails with it and use it to clear some land... would this be capable?

farmallsuperc. My son bought an O.C.46 crawler to do what you described in your post. Clear some land, and trees, and work it in the woods .saving our I.H 706.J de is an invaluable person to give you correct information on the subject. The O.C.46 we have is a lot of fun to work on ,parts are not hard to find, but sometimes you have to ferrit em out. We have NOT had any trouble so far,but a lot of CLEAN UP involved.I looked on this forum for what would be a considered price to pay for this unit, and most responders who answered the basic questions have the same opinion .Depends on the condition etc. The O.C is a real asset for us to have.
Hope this helps. Reguards LOU

thank you, the post i am looking at says the tractor is being sold for 2500 dollars.. it ran when he parked it last year but he has not started it this year, he says the battery is dead but ran and worked well when he last used it, he also says it would need ne old spark plugs and a overall tune up,.. is this worth the 2500 dollars?

JD
are you all plowed out
what was the snow totals
I can see the parking lots
in your area still having piles in May

Was wondering if the one you are looking at is Gas or deisel? The reason I refer to J de is because he was the first respondant to my post and I have seen picture of his unit and was impressed with his additude towards repairs. Now there ARE OTHERS ON THIS SITE who posess a tremendous amount of knowledge on these machines. We got the manuals for the O.C 46 which covers the gas and deisel O.Cs.We also did a compression check on the engine and re-set the distributor wiring fo the correct firing order.
Ours was sitting for 5 years on the inside of a building. Now if the O.C was pretty well covered to me that would make a good choice and canidate for repairs. Just My 2 cnts worth. I would consider going as high as $2000.00 in the condition I've described. However you should know that what I know about em is very little at best, but not to old to learn about them. I rely on this forum for advice on items I dont know about for repairs. Hope this helps in some small way LOU.

Not all plowed out yet since it hasn't stopped snowing yet. Far as I can tell, we've gotten around 4 feet in the past four days. I plowed last night and found 4"-6" more this morning. And this snow is so thick and heavy, it's now clumping up and almost impossible to move with a plow. The town truck discovered that last night. Seems they got the bright idea to try to widen my road and make a 1 1/2 lane instead of 1. Now much of road is completely blocked with snow balls that are 3' - 4' in diameter.

So far there have been three houses and two dairy barns reported to have caved in. But - I suspect that is due to negligence. It's no secret we have tons of snow on our roofs unless we clear them off.

Here's what one of my OC46 crawlers looks like right now. OC46 on the left and Chevy SUV on the right.
