Saw this on Yahoo and said it was one of the strongest ever recorded and it is causing a lot of other problems so any body heard about it yet and how much damage etc has it done or is still doing all over the pacific ocean areas because of the waves it caused. Ya I can't spell that word so them that starts with a T
 
my local radio (west coast) said that Hawaii has a tsunami alert (sirens going off) and the entire west coast of US has tsunami warning. I heard it was a 8.8. Last report was there were some dead, but not that many. I bet there will be more by the time the aftershocks get done.
 
They said this morning that it was 50 times the magnitude of the one that hit Haiti. It was a lot deeper though so the devistation isn't likely to be as severe.
 
Yahoo did not have much about it other then it was big and that a lot of building had fell down but that was about it. Guess maybe the local news will say something about it tonight
 
San Diego Union Tribune reports about a 2 foot surge, similar to a tide change over a few minutes here. No damage.
 
Latest news report says about 200 fatalities, lots of communications and power lines down, some building damage. With communications compromised, damage reports are probably sparse too. Felt as far as 1800 miles away. Chile's government not asking for help. Waves apparently didn't do much damage to Hawaii.
 
Yes, it caused lake Pontchartrain to slosh 6 inches and I felt it here. Stuff moved around my room and such. Really interesting to feel one for the first time.
