Briggs Stratton Engine Piston rings

I have a Briggs & Stratton 10 HP engine model 243431. I am trying to find a new set of rings for this engine but the problem I am having is that the engine has been bored out to .030 and everyone says they do not make .030 kits for that engine. I do not understand this because the old piston has .030 stamped in it and it is .030 over stock. If they do not make them how come I have one? Where can I find rings for this? This is driving me nuts. I do not want to re sleeve the engine because the bore is perfect. Stock bore is 3.061 my bore is 3.090 Please help.

Can you just forget what it is and just order the size rings you need (maybe thru a machine shop)? Long time ago, we had an old motor that we had no info on and got rings and bearings just by measurement. The store is still there but not sure if the service is as good. Marietta Ignition in Marietta, OH (google it).

Good Luck,

Dave

Check with Hastings or Dave Reed. Probably WON'T be cheap, though!

Over the years I've had our local wholesaler order several ring sets from Hastings by measurement. Usually it's because the ring grooves are worn, and I need wider rings. I have them send the measurements to Hastings to see if they can supply the size I need and if so I machine the grooves to fit. Hasings has also supplied complete ring sets for obsolete applications. They charge a bit more, but not much.

I've bought engines at the Belpre OH branch. Knowledgable people who have many years of experience.

My snail mail address is Hastings. I used to know a lot of people that worked there and I did a lot of work for them to,from another machine shop. I could get my rings free but thats all changed,I can still take my piston in to the NAPA store and get rings to fit.Not to costly either

A few years back B&S stopped producing anything but Standard and +.020. Discontinued +.010 and +.030. That is why you have it and cant get it now.

NAPA sells piston rings from Hastings or Perfect Circle. Has a ring catalog from that company.

Then there's Otto Engine works that will make most any size from 5/8" to 86" their web says. www dot pistonrings dot net

Google "piston rings" for more sources.
