was travelling home from picking up parts at an equipment dealership and knew I was travelling right along, but didn't realize exactly quite how well.Met the police and they pulled me over. The officer informed me that I was travelling 112 kms in an 80 (was about 200 feet inside the 80 from the 90).For those south of 49 that's about 65 in a 50,just out of the 55 zone.I was expecting the worst and all I got was a warning!Maybe it didn't hurt that the officer was by HER self and I am such a good looking feller ;) lol (not).Anyways, take a break when given, all we hear about cops being terrible people, well some of the time yes,but certainly not all the time. There are good and bad people in all occupatins, from police to agriculture to medicine to ministry to you name it.Hope yall have a good one,pd.

Good news Phillip.

Daughter in law got stopped the other morning going 5 over on her way to work. Cop asked her what was the hurry - she sez going to work. After checking her license, cop asked her if she was related to me. Turns out the cop worked for me 26 years ago. I guess I must have treated him OK - he let her go with a verbal admonishment and a promise that she'd tell me HI for him.

Seems like we expect the worst out of people. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised.

I've been stopped many times and have always found the officers to be polite and respectful, with a couple of exceptions, and even then they were not overbearing. I've been boarded by game wardens many time too, and generally it was a relative pleasant experience. I've received a few citations, but only once did I have a legitimate argument. It was a gray area and I eventually won upon an appeal. But I have never argued with those in authority. Fortunately, I've never run into a non-professional law enforcement officer, but I know they exist. You can disagree respectfully, but it never pays to argue. I've been allowed to slide more times than I've been ticketed. I have the same problems with kids in the classroom and I tell them that there will be no argument. I'll discuss it in the hall, but if it's serious, not in front of others.

Glad you lucked out.

Last time I got pulled over it was for "failure to dim bright lights". It was late (after midnight) and James and I had run into town for a burger. I was driving about 10 mph under the limit. Officer prolly thought we'd been partying. He eventually issued a warning and let us go.

I have been on the recieving end of both types of cops, but the vast majority of the older generation cops seem to be the more polite and respectful officers. Most of this new generation are just like like Hitler youth, they don't know the meaning of warning. I live in a very small town of about 1000 and our latest officer is a real jerk, he even wrote his own father a ticket for tires being too wide on his Jeep, no warning, just a ticket. I know it is for the most part a thankless job and this is how they are taught, but I prefer the Mayberry method, keep people in line but not abuse the position. Anyway, thats my rant, glad you only got a warning.

Couple weeks ago a cop pulled me over just as I was heading down a steep hill, then it drops to 30mph right at the bottom. I was slowing down, but really not paying attention to how fast I was giong. Its dark out and I see lights behind me. So I pull over, and the officer said "you know you have a head light out". I said no its not out, its just very dim. Well he goes in front of the truck and looks at it. Came back and asked me why its so dim. I said I dont know. Well he told me to try and fix it and let me go. If it was burnt out I may have gotten a ticket. We tried to fix it with no luck. So now I come back from chores before its really dark with just my running lights on. LOL .My friend said he would put a new ground on it and it should fix it. Hopefully J

Few years back when I was working 2nd shift and going home after midnight I got stopped about once a month for various silly reasons- like going under the speed limit. My response after 3rd stop was: "maybe you were hunting drunk drivers as ordered by superiors?". This got me about half the time a "that might be part of reason, let"s just check license before I let you go", quick verification and "go home to sleep". Other half the time was a get out of vehicle and walk around once, then released. Worst was a Madison city cop soliciting a bribe or something that tried a arrest, got mixed up in processing witnessed by 3 Dane county deputies and I went to court with written motion to dismiss based on misconduct in office by filing false report- to be verified by officers superior handling internal complaint or the sherrifs office whose deputies would be subpeonad to testify-- and would then have to arrest officer. Charges dismissed. City cops tend to lie in my experience and opinion-- the deputies seem a lot more honest. RN

I"ve gotten stopped a few times, but mostly because of excessive smoke and no mudflaps. The few times I"ve been pulled over, the officers have been polite and professional, not just trying to throw their weight around and shove the badge in your face.
My uncle is a deputy sherrif, and he pulled me over the other day. Turns out he had been following me for about 5 miles and figured out it was me in the truck ahead of him. He pulled me over just to bs if nothing else. Guess it was a pretty slow day for him. So we just sat there on the side of the road and caught up on recent happenings for probably 20 or 30 minutes.

Well here's my story. lol. My son and I was headed for cumberland tractor dealer looking for a wagon to pull behind his tractor. We were in the restored 1992 Ford 4x4 with no plates. Had the check sent along wih the paper work into Madison.Been almost a month and no plates from DMV. Officer pulled us over and approached the passenger side where I was setting. aked us politely where was the plates/ Told him we were wondering the same thing because a month had passed by and havn't got em yet. Showed him the paperwork and a photo of the check detailing what the check was for. Back to the squad car and wanted to know where we were going. Told him to the tractor dealer for a wagon. He wanted to know what was in the case we had in the back of the camper shell. Told him it contained piano tools and we were piano tuners by trade. I asked him if he ran us for wants and warrants. he then asked me if I was an old police officer, Nope I told him. He called in for additional info on us then came back and said My son was wanted in three states. I thanked him for the information and told him I wanted to know what states he was wanted in so we wouldn't go back there any more.
Got a chuckle out of him and gave him our card and told him if he ever needed a piano tuner to give us a call. Now the plates came about 4 days later and every time we go to cumberland, and if we spot him we get a smile and wave from him . Nice plesant exchange of commical conversation. Pays to be nice and as for me, Thats one job I wouldn't want. Dont have the temper for it. Way to many smart asssssssss to deal with. Drunks, acid heads, theives, liers, robers, and gunman to suit me. done with my story. LOU

Took out the old convertable one Sunday last fall, come over the hill and there sits a checkstop, lady officers, problem was I recently bought the car and had not yet changed the registration but the insurance was up to date in my name so while I was sitting there sweating I figured the only thing to do was to admit to just buying the car which was past the grace period to change up the registration, when my turn came she looked at the papers, I volunteered I was the new owner, she smiled and said have a good day, as Phil says grab a break when you get them.

College buddy and I, and our dates, were going through Airway Heights (just west of Spokane) about 40 years ago. He had a '60 Chev, city cop stopped us and said we had a headlight out. He told us to go to a specific repair shop up the street- was very insistent- wanted it fixed before we proceeded, and that shop had the correct parts in stock, etc.

We went to that shop, and while we were talking to the guy, the headlight came back on. We hopped in and headed out. The cop pulled into the shop just as we left, and sure enough, he was soon on our tail, pacing us all the way through town. Apparently very disappointed that we were a "no sale", and he didn't get his kick-back.

Hey there;
A bunch of years ago, while we were going to the
"drive-in-movies" (I said a "bunch") we were pulled over by the "local yokel" he told us
we had a headlight out. As he was writing the ticket out, I told him to write himself one too,
his headlight was out, he said "dang I checked before I went on patrol"! Tore my ticket up said "have a good time at the movies"

God Bless

I haven't gotten a ticket in a few years now. Most of the time I was polite, played dumb or surprised, (1/2 the time I actually was) and got off with warnings.

Got pulled over in my acheive once, as the tailights weren't on. Was news to me as it the headlights worked, but not the tailights. While he was running my info I figured I had some time so I grabbed the manual from the glove box to start looking up the fuse. He seemed pleased that I knew where to look, but unfortunately it wasn't the fuse. That one costed me $100 for the new switch.

I used to work 2nd shift as well, and I got pulled over more times after work than any other time. Several times I was just pulling out of the parking lot and they would swing around behind me. "where you comeing from tonight?...." they would always ask. I would tell them work, and they would look at me like I was an alien. One time they pulled me over and gave me a warning because my liscense lights were burnt out. Another time, she said I was going 37 in a 25, but I was less than 100 yards from the parking lot at work. I simply stated that there was no way I was goin that fast, as I had just pulled out of work. She was ticked but let me off with a verbal... Could tell they were fishing for drunks and they were non too polite until they realized I was completely sober.

Another time I was following an obvious drunk on my way home. Cop was behind me and threw on his lights, went around me and pulled them over. I started to go around (200 yards from being home) and he popped out the car motioning for me to STOP. He then came up to my passenger side, I rolled down the window and again had to answer his questions. Can't really blame him, but it was getting old.

My partner and I have worked 3rd shift for 8 yrs at a large plant. We start at 11 pm. One night in the summer my partner stops at a local gas/party store to get snack as usual on the way in. A woman in a car at a pump was having a medical issue and an ambulance and two cops came. It was clear it was not life threatening and the matter was calming down. The one cop had my coworker blocked and he needed to get to work. He politely asked the cop if he could let him out. "Why? so you can get back to the bar?!! he screamed "You gotta hot date with your girlfriend?!!" No my coworker said, I need to get to work" OH sure you do". Finally the more senior cop came over to see what the screaming was about. My coworker said he just wanted to get to work. The mouthy cop said "Yeah he's got to get back to the bar!" No he said I was on my way to work but "officer attitude, won't let me out". Junior cop threatened to arrest him but didn't. The point is the cops have every opportunity to make it a bad day or a good one. Some are just a$$holes. Heck, in the large plant where I work, the private security guards go out at 2 am in their security trucks and drive city streets looking for drunks and follow them while phoning the cops. Last year they had a guy arrested for drunk walking on the city sidewalk. Hows that for nice. The guy chose the right thing and walked and these gung ho rent a cops got him busted. sorry for the vent
