Old Scottish Truck

Seems there is a theme here meanime on old trucks so just thought I would share a picture of my 1960's Bedford RL 4x4 wrecker with Bedford 330ci diesel engine. Originally designed for the British Army they were fitted with 5 ltre gas engines returning around 7 mpg unless used in 4x4 in which case more like 3mpg (rather expensive to run here at around $8 per gallon. They were said to be capable of climbing an angle of 30 degress fully laden and had lots of flex in the chassis allowing all 4 wheel to remain planted on the ground most of the time. It worked locally for around 30 years recovering hundreds of wrecked cars and vans with the odd light truck. I bought it around 2 years ago with the thought of restoring it and using it to haul some of my smaller tractors behind on a trailor. Anyway just thought you might like seeing something different to your own Macks etc.

(quoted from post at 14:02:53 02/22/10) Way cool, but..............$8.00 per gallon??????

That's why stuff is built and used more efficient when possible. Reason a Passat pulls a 2 horse trailer instead of an F350.

I get to fuel our two daily drivers with American prices (still more than you folks pay though), but tractoe, quad, and anything else has to pay the German price. Didn't know Scottland was so hi, but don't doubt it at all.

Believe a 5.9 Cummins would go real nice in that rig. I love the looks of it- wish it was on this side of the pond, I'd try to swap you out of it.

Some of the Ford industrial diesel engines in fishing boats, etc. over here are called Bedford- presume it is the same outfit.

the body shape looks alot like the ford COE built in the late 40's to the 50's the long wheel spacing on this truck must made for some tough steering in cities especialy left turns al

(quoted from post at 05:18:12 02/23/10) Just ask him how much is TAXES

In Germany, a liter costs 1.40 euro ($2 +/- a little) for the Germans. The tax free that I get for the cars is US 70 cents a liter.
