engine detuner /anti/overev

BIL HAS A 1998 mARQUIS , good car except with a MODERN B/S detuner that will not allow overreving the engine when the wheels detect slippage , he got stuck in the snow saturday , he says for the last time of many this year ... is there a way to turn off the computer s help during matters such as this ? ,,...sis , luvs the car ,but BIL ,is so disgusted he is ready to sell the MARQUIS . .. I think GM has a switch on their cars to shut out the computer,.

There is a button on the dash that will turn it off

My wife had a 2000 merc like that. I think the traction control switch is in the glovebox. Jf

Are you sure it's the rpm limiter and not traction control? If it's traction control, normally there's a way to disable it. And 99 percent of the time you'll do better to leave it engaged. If it's actually the rpm limiter kicking in, I guess I don't understand how revving the engine to 7000 rpm is going to get you unstuck if 6000 rpm won't do the trick.
